Please help me save my bird

Pics
Isn't this the truth.

This is why BYC exists. It is the only place either virtually or in reality where there is decent info.

It is unlikely that chickens are experiencing multiple ailments concurrently. Flocks are treated off the diagnosis of a single bird.

Dr Bailey seems like a real piece of chicken scratch, but a forced necropsy may save the rest of the birds. A tough reality.
If it was mycoplasma, euthanasia isn't required to test for... he really thought it was MG for sure and he said he "called the university and confirmed they needed a dead bird" and scheduled her to be put down the next morning.

That gave me just enough time to learn that wasn't true. I got my tests, my adult hens are still alive, it's not mycoplasma.

If an adult hen must be sacrificed to find fowl cholera or other things not yet considered, then it is what it is, but I want that information from the guy who is cutting the bird open and preparing the samples.

Chicks dropped off at the diagnostics lab. he said he's going to do as much as he can to find what they have and get back to me. He said at this size brain tissue will be easier to look at along with other organs. He said he doesn't want to speculate so asking what he thinks they might have is predicated on more tests I guess.

I wouldn't go back.
I wouldn't either. Just because the man is esteemed in his field doesn't mean he's not also a pompous, arrogant jerk.

No, I wouldn't do it, not yet. IF the cause is viral there's no treatment, and antibiotics seem to have helped. And the vet already said a necropsy was required to test for MG, and the OP found out on her own this wasn't true. She has already spent a small fortune, pleaded for further live testing, and the vet refused. A vet who is less knowledgeable, but has compassion and is willing to learn in order to help her flock is a much better vet for this case.

@SarahLadd , I guarantee you the bird flu test was negative, otherwise you would have been immediately notified, and people would have shown up in hazmat suits the very next day to euthanize All your birds. (At least one extremely sad thread on BYC that I know of where that happened.)

Did you take a live bird directly to a lab for testing, or just samples? Also, how many chicks did you have, and were they hatched from your flock's eggs by you? The one died of "mushy chick disease, and another chick was open-mouth breathing in a video you posted. Did that chick die on its own? What were chick symptoms? Also, were the chicks directly exposed to your adult birds? Some avian diseases are transmitted through the egg but not others. Have Jasper and the other symptomatic hens returned to normal? Looking for clues, and the more info you provide, hopefully someone will see it and be able to guide you.

Apologies for the cross talk, but any idea where this thread may be?
I'm in the middle of tending to multiple broodies and chicks, but will try to locate it as soon as I can. I will pm you with the link since it's not directly relevant to this thread, because thankfully bird flu has been ruled out as the issue here.

Not sure if this is the one she was referring to but this is one of the post I remember. I remember seeing another in Florida but I can’t find the post now.

Also @SarahLadd I have been following along and feel heart broken for you and I can relate to how you feel. I have a bunch of D’anvers and we found out the beginning of this year that we have Mareks. It’s been a heart breaking ordeal for us. I really hope you get answers soon.

Edited to correct spelling.

Yes, @BastyPutt , that is the thread I was thinking of

That thread is what I was afraid of happening, and I'm still in suspension of grief that it still may.
I just can't help but to think there has to be some other option for you.

I feel like all these "specialists" have cornered you into thinking they are God's word and authority.

Have you tried and local Facebook chicken groups maybe? Something were you could get some other resources? There has to be something more.

Every single person should read this thread. @SarahLadd something f like this was the first thing I thought of when thinking f about you taking your poor chickens everywhere. I don't know how to help really, but I'm sure it is out there - and can be had confidentially.

Did you see the previous post from Wyorp saying that what you are dosing is only 1/2 a dose?

I missed this post earlier. OK, hopefully they can figure out the problem.
