I knew the adults didn’t like young chicks. I thought this age would be okay they’re like about 3 weeks old. I tested it out and there wasn’t problems. Plus we have ten new ones and was testing out who could stand being with the adults.

I put the youngest sapphire gems in, was told they were girls.
Please tell me how to help her! She the ONLY one who got injured!!
When she stretches her neck, when I picked her up I swear you could see the ligaments ? I’ll post pics. But when she’s sitting normal you can notice it. It’s all bloody it must’ve happened around 6-7am this morning

Which is only when 3 adults are in there since the #cockerel &#1 (in pecking order) go into a box in the garage at night.

Please look and tell me what I should do! Looked the the skin was ripped off. She moves fine and is eating but should I separate her???
PLEASE HELP!!!!

She is still out in the coop with her sisters. It’s been almost 3 hours since I’ve noticed. Please I need anyone’s opinion asap!

I’m so full of regret I’m so upset someone, anyone with knowledge please. How do I clean it? Do I keep her alone in a box for how long? What do I clean it with? If the skin was ripped off, do I put it back on ? Should I grab a white towel and bring her inside with me until I find a smaller box?!!

They are definitely to young to be with adult chicken. I begin integration around 6 week. Mine also free range so the littles are able to get away if need be. But I always do a week in a crate out with adult before ever letting them out with adults. Then another week crated in the coop with them before being able to freely sleep with the big chicken. Chickens can heal from some pretty bad injuries. 1st is to separate that open blood wound is nothing but a magnet for the others to begin pecking at. Clean the wound with some Vetericyn wound care spray. I would just keep applying few times a day. And i would probably cake on some Neosporin. As long as the baby continues to eat, drink and you keep it clean so infection doesn't set in. It should be ok.

Yes I just as of yesterday started letting the older chicks roam the yard. Since their bigger can get away, and any holes under the fence they can’t get out.

I’m worried about letting the #1 male and female out today though.
All mine are free range too. The newest in the yard are exploring while running from the adults. They have their hiding spots. I try to distract them with snacks.

The 3-4month sapphire and the other 5, 2 of which are black sexlinks, so ten I put in the outside coop everyday to get used to being outside, during the day. At night they go back to their box in the garage but the older ones are getting soo big I need a new box or in reality 2 large boxes I can cut and tape back together. Until their big enough to defend themselves.
I was promised another coop would be made by now so I’m just going to make it myself, best I can. I have wood and the wire.

Anyways thank you! I’ll find a box right NOW and grab her out. I noticed the others were pecking at it I just didn’t know what to do. I don’t have any sprays on Neosporin and Q-tips, hopefully I still have a spray bottle somewhere so I can rinse it off at least with water

I would also keep her in till she's healed up and the wound is dark with a good scab over it. You'll have to integrate her back in because she's going to be inside healing for awhile.
l the others forget about her and she’ll have to fight them off again when she’s healed??

It honestly depends on the chicken, I'm thinking she'll at least need a week away to heal. She won't be 100% healed but enough that the wound isn't drawling the attention of the others. Her flock mates the ones she's currently with of the same age might accept her back with no issues and then again they might not and need some look but can't touch time. You'll have to monitor closely when she's is returned with them. I good rule of thumb is around 6 weeks and fully feathered to being integrating with older chickens. Its definitely a process.

Actually you don't want it to form a scab. Wash it twice a day and coat it with a triple antibiotic ointment that does NOT have pain reliever in it, it's toxic to chickens, to keep it moist. You might want to trim feathers away from the wound so you can see it clearly to treat. Red is a target for chickens, they will peck at it, make the injury much worse, so separate the chick till it heals. Watch out for fly strike.
