Thank you in advance for you advice.

I have a mixed flock of 1 to 4 year old hens. 2 days ago one of my young ameracauna hens started acting sick....gasping, yellowish diarrhea, feathers puffed up, rattling sound when she breathes....Well I gave her some liquid vitamins and wormed her with Safeguard. Now this morning 3 more of my hens are doing the same thing. One of my silver laced wyndotte's eyes are swollen shut....I have them isolated but need help. I answered all the questions below. Thank you for helping.

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
1 Ameracauna (1st to get sick) 1 year old - much thinner than others
2 silver laced wyndottes 2 1/2 years old
1 barred rock 3 years old

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
gasping, yellowish diarrhea, feathers puffed up, rattling sound when they breathe, drinking but not eating, one hen's eye is swollen shut.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
1st to get sick 2 days ago....3 others symptoms started this morning

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
just the 4 I mentioned and now have them quarantined from my flock

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
no

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
nothing that I am aware of

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
drinking but not eating

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
very runny, yellowish

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
liquid vitamins and safeguard wormer

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
unfortunately there are no vets in my area that will treat chickens :( so I have no choice but to treat myself

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
no wounds, just swollen eye in one chicken so far

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
open air coop, automatic waterers, sand on the floor, straw in the nest boxes

I forgot to mention that I also have several 3 to 6 week old chicks (bought from TSC) in a separate pen ....I have had several die in the past few days.... not sure if this might be related....

I am having the same problem!!! First one hen died during the night after no signs, the next day another , then my juvenile flock began to have the same symptoms and started dying.

Signs: feathers ruffled, gargling sound when breathing, runny feces, bloody in the juvenile flock but not in the adult, one eye shut.

Mine continue to eat and drink

All these types of stories scare me to pieces...makes me want to put all my chickens inside of bubbles.

Have a few more with symptoms. The tylan seems to be helping....they are up walking around more, eating and drinking. Does anyone think this might be coryza?

nope, 1/2 a cc will have to be used twice a day! 25mg per day is fairly weak, as tylan 50 isn't as strong. i would boost it to a whole cc a day, and look into infectious coryza, and other resperitory diseases. keep any chickens showing the same signs quarantined to prevent outbreak and the possible loss of a flock. good luck!
