As far as the rooster, I am afraid I have to agree with the others. A rooster that did that in my yard would be next in line for becoming the main ingredient for my fabulous chicken souvlaki.

So, how is she doing? Can you tell yet if she's lost the eye? Right after your incident, I had a white quail get pecked up pretty good by the others. I guess they didn't like that she was different than everyone else!! Mine wasn't nearly as bad as yours though.

Let us know.

OK so a update on my chick she is doing great and after my 4 year old daughter prayed for her eye to be healed the next day her eye started to open ! God works in mighty ways! But now he eye is almost fully open and SHE CAN SEE OUT OF IT!!! She is healing well i have been using iodine and nesporn on her once a day and whats funny is i bring her inside to clean her and while i am cleaning her she falls asleep! She has bonded to me since this happened. She is in her own small chicken house in the chicken pin it has food water heat light and a sleeping part for her to chill in. She want out with her friends so bad but she still has some healing to do before i let that happen I am so thankful to all of you that have helped me with her !! Here is a pick of her from about a week ago now. I just noticed that I need to get another pick of her cause it looks way better then this now !!!

The rooster will probably attack more chicks in the future, it's the instinct of many male animals to kill the babies so that the mama will go in heat again and the male can mate her. If I were you I would tie him before any other chicks hatch.

LOL! Mama don't go into heat LOL! Possibly a very unwilling partner for the rooster if that is the case. When a roo pecks and kills his hens, he is designated to go to the stew pot, no exceptions. No need to pollute his gene pool to his future chicks.

Your hen's wound looks so much like my turkeys!!! Even the way you described it. Big Mama is so big though that I cannot get her in the house for cleaning. I used Ajax liquid dishwashing soap (like "Dawn") diluted in water, tpons of water, as an initial rinse and them left it. It's under her left wing, and I know our muscovies have the be the instigators as i;ve seen them go after her. When it first happened I wasn't sure if I was seeing muscle or not, but am sure the skin was gone over a baseball sized areaa. It's been a couple weeks and it seems to be healing. I have her isolated now except at free-ramge time (just in the past 3 days). Trying to hoist her into the duck house for isolation is a HUGE ORDEAL. She's obese and unwilling to be hoisted.

So glad your sweetie is getting better.

Oh...we're looking aat possibly rehoming our rooster cause he's getting agressive with us. I couldn't eat him, though.

She looks like she is going to be fine. I've seen birds recover from much worse. The worst case of cannabalism I've dealt with was a pen of Blue Andulusions. Three hens and one rooster ganged up on a hen. When I found her she wasn't moving and her comb had turned pale blue. I could see her bones in her back and wing. She actually had a hole all the way into her abdomen and I could see her inards. Poor thing. I took her to my house to let her die in peace. But she pulled through! I couldn't believe it! A couple months later she looked totally fine except one wing drooped about an inch lower than the other. Chickens are amazing! She'll be fine!

Cant put her in with the others just yet still got a little more healing to do but she is making such great progress !!!
