Hello There,

So tonight I was making some egg salad when I just started cracking the egg shells... I recently started putting the eggs from boiling, into water and vinegar to make it easy for the eggs to peel. It is the first time since I have done it, that the actually brown egg's "paint" came off.

I have had very little "paint" peel off an egg or two in the past. But I'm talking ten eggs fully loosing color! It just peeled off like rubber and it felt like thin webbing.

I attached a photograph below for help identifying this different issue... Please don't take your time away to figure out what happened. I ate the eggs, I seem to be fine... I think. But this is not overly urgent just a small concern. Thank you!

Hello @mountainbunny,

Thank you for responding! Yes, I have a funny feeling it has to do with the vinegar. I am curious too, to see how many people have this happen and why. We shall see!

Hello @The Phantom,

That's interesting. I guess my only option is the vinegar. That must be the culprit... Oh, and thank you for your input. Have a nice evening!

Are you sure you feel fine? Do the palms of your hands itch, even just a little bit? Are your eyes any more sensitive to light????

Sorry. I just had to yank your chain! Looks like you have become a trend setter. You could call it: The un-Easter egg coloring. Instead of going to the bother of coloring those eggs for the Easter bunny, you could uncolor them, and have them distributed by the Easter kangaroo.

If you soaked them in a strong vinegar solution, I believe the shells would become completely de-calcified.

I boil my eggs in a strong salt solution (about 1 TBSP salt/qt of water). This draws moisture out of the egg, which makes it easier to peel. I find them very easy to peel if I use a spoon b/c the spoon matches the contours of the shell!

Hello @DeilaMiah,

Ha ha, if so... Too late! :lau

Hello @lazy gardener,

Thank you for your input!

Goodness, you almost had me!! Ha ha, good one! :lau
Yes, I see so! Good idea!

That sounds interesting, I might give that a try. I bet it helps kill germs on top of it being cooked. Thank you once again for helping me figure this Easter bunny mystery!!

Sincerely,
-The Angry Hen
