I would worry about the dog being hurt. A lab is not a match for a dog, in water the dog would be dead. A couple dogs would take a coon though.I don't know what my lab would do if she ran into a coon. She's a pretty driven hunter though.![]()
I'm not planning on letting her run into any, of course. I would definitely worry too. We do have another lab, but she's afraid of vacuums and hair dryers.....I would worry about the dog being hurt. All it took for my Weimers was one coon slashing her neck open....after that she absolutely hates coons. The male just joins in on the fun.I would worry about the dog being hurt. A lab is not a match for a dog, in water the dog would be dead. A couple dogs would take a coon though.
They 'team up' on them now, coons can't protect both ends at the same time! That's why I don't let my pups hunt coons. >_> Husky is tenacious but would not be cautious or smart. She'd get bit bad. Rats I let her hunt. Groundhogs I'm cautious but she does it. Squirrels, birds, rabbits, chipmunks, mice, whatever. Coons? That's not only spooky for injury but a rabies risk.
Sean, that's how my dogs are about groundhogs. But the adults are so big, they're scary and tough and their teeth are huge.....
