Please help sick hen!

Anyone know why a chickens crop is full of water and just sits there drinking water
Because she's thirsty?
What do her poops look like?

Is it hot where you are?
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

- Her poops are watery

- It’s spring +6 outside

She was just standing there drinking water out of a puddle her crop is large and filled with water

That's not so hot...she may be trying to clear something from her system.
Is she eating feed too?

I'd isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so I can closely monitor:
- their intake of food and water,
-crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed),
-and their poops.
-Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling.
- Check for external parasites or any other abnormalities.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

This morning there was hardly anything in her crop she was looking better so we put her back with the other chickens. she is acting normal

If the crop was not empty this morning, then read the article below and determine what treatment you need to begin with.

- We have the hen separated
- She is eating
- her abdomen is hard ( our hens are fat... so their food is now limited )
- poop is a bit watery but mostly solid
- I tried to put her back this morning but she went straight to the water and drank a concerning amount of water so she’s back in the crate with a bit of food once we in a while I’ll go in there to give her a bit of water so she doesn’t get dehydrated

She should have feed and water in crate all day, take both out at night to check crop function and poops.

I would not withhold water except overnight.

Is her abdomen bloated hard?
