***PLEASE*** HELP!!! Very sick Jersey Giant Rooster!!!!

The one I went to is tiny and they never have what you need

Happens all the time ... usually, you've just gotta find where they keep treatments for livestock, and watch for the labels. Most clerks only know where what the items they've personally stocked are, and have no idea what they're used for. TSC, as a company, distributes food they have manufactured for them, but during their latest recalls? I couldn't speak w/ their biologist, or chemist, or any doctor ... as they haven't any on staff. Just 'the buyer' who handles all that stuff.

If the DEA came in here, they'd freak ... I've various small boxes, filled w/ fine white powdery substances, because I see no advantage to payin' middle men (instead, I buy bulk quantities of the active ingredients ~'-)

Update Batman is still stable. I spoke with several avian vets today and finally after a wild goose chase i found a vet who knows about chickens!!!!

I was so happy, i told him the whole story and he is going to prescribe him with tetracyclin (sp?) he told me not to even worry about bringing him in because his office is an hour away and he doesnt want me to stress him out even more. I am so happy!!! I also gave Batman some fluids/ asprin/ and electrolytes via a feeding tube. He is eating his crop was full today!

Thank your to everyone who has tried to help Batman!!!

Yeah! You've come through for him, Robin ~'-)

Hope the tetracycline does the trick for him. Since you're not plannin' on eatin' him, and it ain't possible to eat eggs layed by any rooster, there's really no worries ... save for maybe keepin' him out of the sun too longs, and withdrawing supplements (esp. iron) while he's on 'em, and using them for the full time prescribed -- not just up until he looks/acts better. That's important.

I haven't had a chance to play w/ it yet, but I just bought a 6.5 ounce packet of Sav-A-Caf medicated milk replacement. It's got 1.25 G of both neomycin sulphate and oxytetracycline dihydrate, so I'm lookin' into some more 'extra-label' usages of my own (once I've done a bit more research and a whole lot more math ~'-)

So far he's been on the antibiotics for 24 hours. I can definitely see an improvement!!! He clucked at me today (he hasnt made a vocalization jn over a week!) when I got home from work!!! I shed a tear! I was soooo
excited!!! He keeps trying to walk but is still very unstable at the moment. I think that maybe he has an ear infection? If that's possible? Maybe his equilibrium is off due to something of that nature. The vet said he's not entirely sure if chickens can get ear infections but he has seen them in parrots. Either way he said the oxycyline will knock it out hopefully. Thanks again to everyone for their words of wisdom and encouragement. I didn't want to give up on him and he obviously didn't want to give up either.

Oh one more thing I was giving him asprin and it seemed to help with his inflammation in his legs but I forgot to ask the doc if it was ok to give it with the antibiotics and he isn't in the office on Fridays :( so if anyone knows that would be great!!!
