Please help

well when brought up together at close to the same age they should get along good. with silkies as chicks, it is rather hard to tell males from females. what i do is, i look at the top of their head where there comb will be. if there is a wide separation there chances are it is going to be a rooster, but if the separation there is close together where their comb is going to be, chances are that it will be a female. this method has worked for me nearly everytime!!! i hope that it works for you as well. rennea.

I know a couple of people that keep rooster flocks, my father-in-law is one of them
his boys range in age and they get along great, every once in awhile there is a tussle but only lasts a second. The only problem would be if there were many boys and not enough girls.

Good luck!! and Welcome to BYC!!

I keep a stag pen but not a rooster flock.

I agree they CAN get along great and even though they were NOT brought up together. Mine vary in age also. It all boils down to the individuals. Little scuffles happen as would for anyone who has to live together. I've seen the occasional boy hell bent on making another leave the flock though. In which case I give the chaser a chase of my own and put him on notice! :)

Could you please post a clear photo of the bird facing forward with crest held back , so I can see full extent of comb? Silkie is beardless, so males or females would have wattles showing - male wattles would end up larger than females

Thanks he is only seven weeks old so I will look for another chick around the same age, I will use your strategy when choosing, I live in the country, I didn't know it would be lonely by itself , I also thought I would get a hen, I am kind of attached so I don't want to get rid of it
