My uncle gifted us a little tamed black chick (Googoo) a while back and I got really attached to it, I never thought about caring for a chick before it started to follow me around. Unfortunately, this morning my father discovered that it had passed away :( It got tangled in a hook from the heat lamp that we set in the cage as it was a cold night and passed away from being overheated... Now I can't stop crying. I specially feel bad for the other chick in the cage. My father found it in the road and it's a 'wild' chick, it wasn't friendly like Googoo and still hasn't gotten used to us. But it got close to Googoo and followed it everywhere and even ate out of my palm if Googoo did. And went inside the cage if Googoo goes inside. Right now, it's panicking even if I go near the cage. I don't know how to comfort it! It keeps on chirping loudly when it can't see me but if I come close it stops and tries to hide? I don't know...I'm really worried. Any kind of advice is appreciated.

Aawww... I am so sorry for your loss. Is the second chick an actual chicken chick? If so, I think it will get used to you. I suggest taking it slow... just be near it. Keep your movements slow and your voice calm and sweet. Handle it gently. If it ate out of your hand before, I'm sure it will again. Any bird who recognizes you as the food source will get used to you.
I would guess the poor little one was a bit traumatized by it's cage mate's death and will eventually welcome your comfort and companionship. Even if it's a wild bird. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Hi @Chorichori :frow Welcome To BYC

I'm so sorry to hear about GooGoo:hugs

The lone chick - can you post some photos of it?
Photos of how you are keeping her would be helpful too - we may be able to give you some tips.

The little that is left is missing her buddy. You can try placing a small stuffed animal or a feather duster in her cage/brooder for her to snuggle with. Make sure the lamp is only warming one side of her brooder so she has room to get cool if she needs to.

What are you feeding her?
Look forward to your photos.

Have you tried adding a drop of UNFILTERED apple cider vinegar to it's water? You might get another chick to keep it company. Sorry for your loss, it's strange to other people but chickens are very special, I know how hard it is to lose one.
