I posted yesterday about my little chick that seems to have an injured leg/foot. Upon reading a lot of previous threads with a lot of similar stories, I’ve isolated her and used vet tape to wrap the affected leg. She’s been in solution for 24 hours now and mostly sleeps, eats, drinks, and poops. All very normal. I’ve given her electrolytes in her water to hopefully keep her regulated and not sleep all the time if possible. Is there any other advice y’all have for me? I really don’t want to give up on her because she was fine before Tuesday morning, and is eating and drinking just fine.

Her foot looks a little swollen after having the cast on 24 hours, should I keep it on or take it off for a while? What are her chances of survival? I don’t want to give up on the little thing

Can you take off the cast and get a picture?. What symptoms were you seeing? Was it swollen before casting?
I’ll get a picture in a little bit, I’m trying not to handle her too much just because I know she’s uncomfortable. It wasn’t really swollen before the cast was on but it was really limp, almost made me wonder if she was paralyzed in that leg but once the cast went on she was actually putting pressure on it. I will take it off and send a picture though!

And the symptoms before was she was only hopping on her other leg and using her wings to kind of steady herself, not moving unless she absolutely had to, but eating and drinking a lot when I moved her to the feeder and water station

Try limiting her movement, maybe by putting her in a very small box. Chickens are very resilient. You'll be surprised at what they can heal from naturally.

I’ve got her separated from the others in a 12x12 box with food and water. She doesn’t move very much unless I move her to the food and water, does she need something smaller?
