By the way, I've heard you throw out the bad eggs by this time....anxious...I've got some clear eggs...but I'm pretty sure I have a few with blood rings....
When is the latest I should wait to throw out eggs?

Parson's wife,
I was on day 14. I am not going to quit trying til I get something to come through. I might even take my turner out and do it by hand as that worked better for me on my first batch. They actually grew in that one, just never hatched. I just wonder what I am doing wrong. I might have to make a water wiggler, and check my temps that way.

I have never candled before, so I could be all wrong. From what I understand sometimes its hard to see the development with brown eggs. Perhaps if you just let them in the bator and see what happens. I tried to candle and broke the first egg I tried. Good Karma to you, hope that helps.

Parsons wife did you see the candleing thing in the Learning Center. Here's a link there are several articles on this page.

Hope it works for you guys.

I bought one...not so great results at first...put in a therm. with much trial and effort...and well it says the temp is just a hair below 100, so we shall see.

I want to make this a common practice around the parsonage...I've had several people contact my husband...they've heard we are raising chickens...and they want some...plus eggs...course the coop is not done so the chickens can't come...better get started on a brooder...saw a quick and easy one on this site...a plastic tube with w/ cutouts..and wire...
I think I can build that one myself...may just leave it a plastic tub!

Edited to add: I purchased a wiggler (at Dollar Tree..$1)

I could see better after I cut a couple of holes in each end of a box. One big enough to fit my flashlight in and the other end small enough to let some light out. I am going to use it from now on. It works so much better.

I've been wondering about this candling thing. I understand the mechanics behind it, but is it really necessary? If I understand right the worst that can happen is a rotten egg can leak, and cause a serious mess. Dose that hurt the other eggs, can you just wipe them off? How often does this happen? I guess I need someone to explain the reasoning behind it to me.

Friday is day 18. Gonna see some rockin soon

If my hand is getting sweaty I apologize, but I'm getting excited about this.
