Please Hold My Hand

Well today is day 3 for me! I'm have been trying so hard not to candle, I think I might just look at one while I'm turning, since I'm turning by hand anyway....

I'm trying out the dry incubation so the humidity shouldn't really drop and the temp goes back up quick cause my incubator is fairly small...

What do you guys use to candel? I seen some people use projectors, but I haven't found one in the second hand store. Will a regular flashlight work? I have brown eggs so that makes it a little tuffer. I'd like to candle, and today is the day I should do the first candeling, but I don't want to upset everything unless I'm fairly sure I can actually see something. I think the reason for candeling, other than the excitement factor, is to insure that a dead egg won't explode in your bator. Does everyone candel?

Brahma, I'll bet that's cool to see the embryo swimming around.

Good Karma Everyone.

I was able to use a sheet of black construction paper and a small led flashlight that is pretty bright. I was able to see veins and a dark area plus air sac on day 7 (thought it was day 8 but I've since been corrected). I made the paper into a cone with a one inch diameter opening at one end. I taped it to hold. DH held the flashlight inside, DS turned off the light in the room after I'd removed each egg and we were able to check each one very quickly and return it to the bator.
I am a first timer at this and I'm sure someone else will have better directions than that but we did have some success. I found the directions on a web search.

Thanks Theresa, I must have missed that, I'll check it out tonight.
Sounds like a good idea Henrietta23. Are your eggs brown, or white?. I'll try that in the A.M.

Wow I just went to the link Theresa suggested, and made the flashlite thing Henrietta recomended. Is that cool. I took one of my lighter eggs, and actually could see the air cell and a little blob floating around in there.
