Please...my pet chicken is eggbound...time is of the essence

Lusty, My hen is still with us too. She lays around with the flock and moves when they move. She's eating and drinking a bit but won't eat the antibiotic-laced yogurt. I've had internal layers die within 1 week of their symptoms, so I really don't know what's going on with her.
I am completely stumped.

I'm glad to hear that both of your hens are still hanging on. But too bad that neither seems to be improving...

Well, now this is strange. My "sick" hen is now BROODY.

wow. That is very strange. If she has the energy to be broody, she must be getting better, right?

airheart, I guess so! She's sitting next to another broody on the floor of the coop. It's not a "sick" type of sit, it's definitely a broody sit. And she tucks her head down and growls when I get close. I'm waiting for another hen to lay an egg so I can place it in front of her and see if she tucks it under. That's the sure fire way to know!

Lusty, what's going on with yours? Haven't heard from you in a while. Good vibes going your way...

Suebee, I'm very confused about your hen! You'll have to keep me updated on her!

My hen, well, she has just completed her second cycle of antibiotics. I can't say that they have helped any. She is still eating, drinking ,wandering around the yard. I just don't know what to say...I guess as long as she isn't suffering, and still moving around enjoying what she can, I should just let her be for now. Maybe she will "self absorb liquid" over the winter as a previous article said has happened.

I was wrong. My "Powder Puff Girls" look alike and I thought she was the one in front being broody. She was the one in back.

She'll be gone in 24 hours. I pulled her out of her "quiet dieing place" and tried to force cooked egg and antibiotics but wouldn't eat.

She has lost a tremendous amount of weight in since I picked her up 3 days ago, and her poop is green and smells awful.

I will not put her down, but let her go peacefully in her quiet spot. Putting her down would be extremely traumatic for her so I will not do it. She will pass through the night in familiar surroundings.

This is the 3rd of five "Power Puff Girls" that has died from being internal layers. They are all Silkies. She is 5 years old.

I wish I could offer some help. Instead I offer my condolences.
I lost my RIR recently and now on of my white leghorns is sick, I don't know what to do.......
I hope your girl goes peacefully.
Lusty, I hope your girl continues to improve. It's impressive the amount of care and love you've given her. If nothing else she will have had a few good weeks. And you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you did everything you could to help her feel better.

i'm so sorry Suebee. i think what you are doing is best. i'm sure she has had a good life with you and her flock. Best to let her quietly pass in familiar surroundings. Please keep us updated, and also wanting to stay updated with your hen, Lusty. This has been a very heartbreaking thread. i have lost many sweet loving pets over my years, and it never gets easier. i do think we learn, though, how best to let them pass as peacefully as possible.
