I have a sister who doesn't enjoy chickens, but I picked her out a jaerhon, hoping she would bond with it, and she likes her! I was so happy. The chick is a few weeks old. I got her about a week ago. Now, the chick is laying on her side and not moving much. I gave her olive oil and electrolyte water hoping she would perk up. Another chick (same age) was displaying the exact same problems so we put both in separate boxes, away from the rest. The other chick, an ameraucana, is doing way way better. I even put her back with her flock. What should I do for our little sick one? I really want her to make it! The thought of losing her makes me so sad. And I think my sister would be upset too. Can anyone give me some help with this? She is on regular pine that we have always used, and we have a small dish of the electrolyte water and some food in with her. Help!!

Hmmm...
I've had a pullet with a similar problem. She was really weak and wouldn't walk on her own. I'm sorry about your child's problem. I don't know what was wrong with my pullet, but I treated her the best I could. I put her in my house ( but that's not necessary, just isolated from the rest of her flock) and put her in a box with plenty of light. I put a screen on top in case she decided to bolt. She was in no condition to move, however. I kept her there for a while. I often fed her scrambled egg and it REALLY helped. When she started moving and making noises, I moved her into a larger cage and added her pal. That really helped her. I was so scared that she would die. But she survived, and is alive and well today. I hope that helps even just a bit. Keep me posted, please.

Haha I understood that you meant 'chicks'. Thanks for your help! I will give her some eggs tonight. I really want her to make it! She is so incredibly sweet and loves to be held and played with. I love her so much! I also heard that yogurt was good for them. Should I try it, and what kind?

First thing I would do is treat the chick for coccidiosis with Corid. That would be the most likely. Then make the chick some feed and water mush and try to get that into her. I even use the Corid treated water to make the mush. It's important to get some in her asap.

You could also try children's liquid vitamins with out iron like poly vi sol. I hold the dropper to the side of the beak slightly open the beak and let a small amount go in don't force it or it could aspirate.
Or you could put some into the mushy food.

Yes, yogurt would be a good idea. Vanilla or plain is probably best, but I give my chicks and hens whatever I have. Chunks might not be the best idea, though. I hope that your chick makes it!:)

She died.

I think that Seminolewind was correct that your chick may have had cocci, and I would recommend that you treat your other chicks with Corid. Sorry for your loss.
