Please, show me your ducks

Pics
Hello.

I am making this thread to beg you for pictures of your ducks, whoever you are, and whatever your ducks are...!

Indeed : even though we can find all kind of pictures on the Internet... I feel pictures of ducks are actually much too rare.
Fact is, when I am searching for some ducks - breeds or colours -, I don't always find what I am searching for, whatever language I am searching with...

For example, I have a Light Dusky RUNNER DUCK, but I could not find any information (picture) to actually know about Light Dusky colour until I found it : https://www.duskyfeatherswaterfowl.com/dusky-pattern
...Trust me : before finding this link, I did not even know how to call the colour of my duck, given I could not find any picture when I first tried to find similar coloured ducks on the Internet... (I even thought then I could get Brown ducklings with my Light Dusky duck, because I didn't know any better...!! In fact, last year, I believed my Light Dusky ducklings were brown...!!)

Even now, there are duck colours I would like to find, but just can't (or can't enough) : Splash, Brown, Blue Pied, Lilac, etc...
(I am particularly hungry for pictures of solid coloured ducks with white feathers on the wings...!!)

(I will admit I can't even tell the difference(s) between Silver and Lavender : until recently, I actually thought they were the same colour, but labelled differently depending on the country...!
WHY does the Internet not have MORE pictures...?!!)

I am especially interested in Splash colours, because the only picture of a Splash Duck I finally could find shows a Splash DUTCH HOOKBILL drake, but to me, he does not look like what I imagined a Splash duck to be...?

Thus, if some of you have pictures... please enlighten me and show them; and think to precise what breed, colour (standard or not), and gender they are.
(Hybrids are welcome, even MORE than welcome... but if you can, do tell what the parents are, please!)

Also : I fell in love with aged (whitening) solid coloured ducks... so, if you have pictures of them - before (younger) and after (older) -, I would really, REALLY like to see them.

(...Do show how much you are proud of your ducks.)
Thank you!
Here’s mine!
Mango (White) kowalski (black with white chest) & Dusty (speckled grey) they are 9 weeks old!

I love them so much! Would appreciate any tips on how to tell what sex they are & also breed! (I was told pure bred Indian runner? But not sure!)

Hmm.. Black Swedish, Pekin, and.. why, I don’t think I’ve seen a Blue Pied Runner before  Is that even what you’d call it? Gorgeous!!

Can you describe their voices or get a video? You can upload a video to YouTube and link it here. Any girls should be loud with a defined honk, and boys awfully quiet, just starting to get their raspy voice.

@Papaye This isn’t exactly what you asked for, but I found this while scrolling through photos I took of my ducks a few months ago! My duck Banana with the white flight feathers stretching. Might have to check and see if there’s more like this I’ve forgotten about. I’m still trying to get a photo of her posing similar to my Buff duck.

Banana is beautiful! My lilac buff drake is also named Banana!

Hello!

The first place I ever got info was from simply looking up, ‘Domestic duck breeds’ and receiving this lovely result. It’s not every breed, and some breeds listed are ones I’ve never even seen / heard of before, but it’s a start. It got me hooked into learning more.

I look at videos...
I read what I can find of course, but I also could learn a lot on some ducks from videos. (People who make them are great!!)

For their genes, reading through this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/mallard-derived-duck-color-genetics-basics.74277/ and messing around with this gene calculator https://kippenjungle.nl/kruisingEend.html has taught me a lot on their own, though I certainly don’t fully grasp it quite yet.

Yeah, same... but I don't know if the calculator is really so accurate?
(Though I am at least grateful for the pictures...)

Hatching my own ducklings has taught me quite a bit, too.

Same.

I could already learn that Trout drake x Light Dusky duck = Faulted Trout.
(I still don't know if a standard Trout can come from Trout x Light Dusky; but if so, I imagine I will get at least one from my current Trout ducklings...?)

I have also learnt that a Bibbed Black drake mating with a Light Dusky duck can make White Winged, Bibbed Black ducklings...

And, weirdly, I recently also learned that non-crested Indian Runner ducks can make Bali ducklings...
That was a surprise, since not so long ago, I believed at least one parent should have a crest for (some of) his babies to also have one!

...I will learn a lot more from now on, since soon, I am supposed to get Runners of different colours than my current ones.
And I really want to see what colours (of ducklings) I will get from them...!!

Here’s mine!
Mango (White) kowalski (black with white chest) & Dusty (speckled grey) they are 9 weeks old!

Thank you for the picture!
They are so beautiful... don't hesitate to post other pictures : I would like to see more of them, especially your Dusty!

I love them so much! Would appreciate any tips on how to tell what sex they are & also breed! (I was told pure bred Indian runner? But not sure!)

You can voice sex them : females quack, and male have a raspy voice (like if their voice didn't work correctly, and they had difficulties to speak)...

You also can sex them by their appearance : they eventually will get curly feathers on their tail if they are drakes... but you also can sex them by colours.

Thus, Dusty, at least, is 100% a male : I'm pretty sure only Indian Runner DRAKE can be Blue Pied as such... but even if it was not the case, his black head is here definitively proof of his manliness.

Hmm.. Black Swedish, Pekin, and.. why, I don’t think I’ve seen a Blue Pied Runner before  Is that even what you’d call it? Gorgeous!!

I have seen one Blue Pied Indian Runner drake recently (in pictures only, sadly)... and he was one of the prettiest drake I have ever seen...!!
That's really an amazing colour on a Runner...

This isn’t exactly what you asked for, but I found this while scrolling through photos I took of my ducks a few months ago!

No : that's PERFECT.
Thank you so much...!!!

My duck Banana with the white flight feathers stretching.

I don't have any word... her wings are even better stretched; and that's so surprising to see such a constrast of colours with the rest of her feathers...
Wow... just stunning... How could she be so beautiful...?!

Might have to check and see if there’s more like this I’ve forgotten about. I’m still trying to get a photo of her posing similar to my Buff duck.

Even if not similar, this picture is just so great...

You really take very nice pictures... I myself take a lot, but absolutely none of mines can be compared with yours. Congrats! And thank you for sharing.

Hi!

Yeah, right... 7 hens is better yet! (...I was tired when I wrote my post!)
Haha, you're good!
...No...?
They actually don't care about each other.
(I had a drake that attacked one of my rooster (Apache) ONCE, but it was during mating season, and this drake was frustrated because he was separated from the females... so, he eventually took it on the poor boy.)

It would seem, in my opinion, like roosters don't even try defending their hens from being raped by drakes because drakes can not fertilize chickens' eggs, and so, are not worthy to be considered as rivals...?
And since drakes are not predators, roosters just don't seem to see them as a threat for their girls...?
Ah, well that's good they shouldn't bother each other!

You may be right on that!
Apart from mating season, there is no reason for a drake to cause much problems...

Is it complicated to give drakes away, where you live?
If it is not the case, you could always bring home a drake that would very be easy to re-home if it did not work out, such as a Cayuga drake : people generally don't want drakes, it's true; but Cayuga drakes are actually so popular they are easy to give away if needed.
(At least in France : Cayugas are easy to give away here, since they are so beautiful and, thus, there are a lot of demands for them... even without their female counterparts!)

Would be a shame you would not be able to have a drake even though you want one so much...!!
Not sure how hard it would be here to give a drake away...
Cayugas are a beautiful breed!
Some of them do, indeed...!
But that's irresponsible : if they want the best for their birds, they should not deceive buyers and sell them males instead of females...
After all : what would happen if someone eventually owns too many males (because of a mistake from a seller), but has no mean to separate them from their girls if needed...? Injured ducks, or worse : dead ducks...
I completely agree with all that!

Yeah, same... but I don't know if the calculator is really so accurate?
It seems to be at least fairly accurate.. I have noticed minor inconsistencies for sure, though
No : that's PERFECT.
Thank you so much...!!!

Thank you so much!! You’re too kind ❤️ You have me very interested looking through old photos, and wow, how could I forget.. I had other ducks with the white wing tips!

All the white wing-tipped ducks I’ve ever had have exclusively been Pekin mixes.. It’s very interesting, because due to white being recessive, it seems like the non-Pekin parent must be carrying a white wing-tipped gene, despite not expressing it themself.

I had at least 2, maybe 3, ducks in the past with the white wings, but I could only find photos of 1 that showed it off well. This is Omelet, a Rouen x Pekin drake.

And him halfway through a molt.. doesn’t quite show the wings, but oh my goodness, I think he’s just soo gorgeous here!! :love

This was a screenshot from a video.. a rather blurry video 🤣 But you can still see the wings well, I think!

Yeah... how could you forget your previous, white winged ducks...? Ah, ah!

I have already seen Pekin mixes, and yet, NONE among them was a white wing-tipped duck...!
(Wow... you really are lucky with your ducks!)

I had at least 2, maybe 3, ducks in the past with the white wings, but I could only find photos of 1 that showed it off well. This is Omelet, a Rouen x Pekin drake.

Yeah, okay... Your Omelet is so great the first picture looks photoshopped... seriously.
(God... he is just TOO beautiful!)

And him halfway through a molt.. doesn’t quite show the wings, but oh my goodness, I think he’s just soo gorgeous here!! :love

He is!

Whatever... his wings look amazing, indeed!
I would so like to see that in real life... (And I have hope with some of my current ducklings, so I am just waiting to see their adult colours...!)

...Thank you so much for the pictures... It is not even Christmas...!!

It is interesting!

It’s not all of them, no. I’d say it’s been closer to 1/3 Pekin mixes for me.
I would so like to see that in real life... (And I have hope with some of my current ducklings, so I am just waiting to see their adult colours...!)
Check their quills once their wing feathers first start coming in, at around 4 weeks old. Pink quill = white feather!! I hope you’ll get some :wee
