I got her/him from the local Ark Country store, they say they guarantee their breed and they sold her/him as an Ameraucana. I hope they did not scam me. They seem like reputable people.
Ask the Ark Country Store where they get their chicks from and if the breeder sends them birds that fit the American Poultry Assoc. (APA) Standard Of Perfection (SOP). If the birds aren't APA SOP birds they aren't Ameraucanas no matter what they may claim to the contrary. I can almost guarantee they get them from a hatchery. Hatcheries habitually label their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas or Araucanas or varied misspellings of either becuase they get more money for what is essentially a crossbred chicken that carries the blue egg gene. So the store you bought them from guarantees the chicks are breeds from the hatchery. Whatever the hatchery tells the store it is, is what the stores sell them as as the store personnel usually aren't knowledgeable enough to know what they carry and take the word of the hatchery they buy from. A lot of times it's pure ignorance on the stores part and misleading advertising on the hatcheries part.

Well Charity just gave out the cutest little crow this morning. Tried to get it on video but to no avail. I'm so sad as he was my sons favorite and he will be devastated if we give him up. Thanks for all the replies, I was in denial, maybe I still am. Hens can crow too right?!

Lol! I'm sorry, but that is a roo. They are usually fairly bold and not too skittish so they are nice to cuddle at this age. However, when their hormones kick in at 5-6 months they go from Tweety Bird sweet to Tasmanian Devil evilness in about a 2 week period of time and believe me, you won't want him around your kids if any of them are under the age of 10. I loved my little Dark Cornish roo until he hit puberty and now after dealing with him chasing people around the run every time we go in for the last 6-7 months he's going in the cooking pot. I just am having difficulty bringing myself to the point of dispatching and butchering him . We bought DC's for the sole purpose of butchering them for the table but I haven't done it before so a bit squeamish..and not sure how to do it. I'm sure I'll get over it quickly but it's just that initial first step that is getting to me. I have vowed any new meat chickens we get will be named after chicken dishes so it will remind us they are food and not pets.

What are the chances out of 100 birds that are 98% pullets/hens I would pick the 2 roosters. I asked my son if he wanted a big one or small one, he said one of each so I picked the biggest and brightest and smallest and darkest so that I could tell them apart. Now Melody is crowing right along with Christian formally known as Charity. What do you guys think? Are they both roos? Melody was named such because she is ALWAYS chirping. They are both scared all the time and very flighty. Christian has taken his crowing and dominance to a whole other level with grabbing girls by tail feathers and pecking them on the head and even trying to mate. I got them on March 7th so they are almost 9 weeks old. I will be heartbroken if we have to wait another year until we can get more as we really wanted Ameracuanas for the beautiful eggs.

When I saw them bumping chest I thought they would probably end up mates. Melody does not have a distinct crow just yet. I was really hoping they'd be mates.
