Please tell me this isn't what I think.. Graphic pics. I put her down

Wow, I am so sorry. I have to say....I am glad you did the right thing to end her suffering. I have one I may be doing the same with in a few days, if she doesnt get better. She has loose stools, no laying, but a hard tummy. The warm bath mesage hasnt helped. My gal is only 3 yrs old...but I think her time has come as well. I hope I have the strength you have!

I am sorry you had to go through that Farmer Kitty.

I lost my favorite hen last year. I have no clue, but it was during a wicked cold snap so it may have been weather related. I still feel so bad. Geesh, who'd a thought one could grieve so over a chicken.

ive only read the first page (so far) of this post, but could it have nothing to do with the chickens?? something a cat killed and brought it or something a chicken drug into the coop?? or something even a wild animal killed? are all you chickens accounted for?

edited to say i finished reading the thread and im terribly sorry, i almost started to cry!!!

It isn't possible that a cat or anything else brought it in. My girls are in a secure (

Thank you everyone. I'm better this morning and managed not to cry while doing their chores. It's amazing how attached one can become to a chicken or any other animal for that fact. I've had others that quit laying and I took care them no problem but, Gabby was another story, she was a pet and will be greatly missed.

I'm sorry you lost Gabby, FarmerKitty. I hope you don't think this is a cruel question, but how did you put her down? The reason I'm asking is if I ever have to do it how would I go about it...?
