Pleased to be part of the club!!

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Congrats on your coming baby! Sounds like you have a colorful flock. Would love to see pictures. I think your approach of learning everything you can about them is a good one. You will be helping folks on here before you know it. Meantime, if you have questions, ask away. Lots of knowledgeable people here!

Thanks heaps, Valerie! I’ll get some good pictures tomorrow morning, I have decent ones of most of them but don’t wanna leave the others out And we’ll be sure to get a shot of baby with the flock when she’s here! What breed(s) do you raise?

Mostly Orpingtons, Buff, Lavender and Australorp. I also have a couple Rhode Island Reds, which are not normally my favorites, but these two are quite sweet. I go for the big, fluffy layers. All chickens are dual purpose here, one they lay eggs and two they entertain us. :D We have had the occasional mean rooster in a soup pot, but honestly, anyone who can get along and not hurt anyone can live out their lives here. :)

I know what you mean about not wanting to leave any of yours out of the pictures. They get their feelings hurt so easily.

We were looking at australorps too and still may get some just for the ridiculous production and they seem like good chooks to start introducing baby to. But we just got in contact with a woman who’s offered us a breeding pair of show quality copper marans (rooster is black n hen is blue) so we’re going down the olive egger rabbit hole lol but I’m sure we’ll get a couple australorps eventually.. is it bad that we’ve only had the flock a couple weeks and I’m already turning into “the crazy chicken guy” they’re just too much fun lol since moving and getting them, we literally haven’t unpacked the tv

I know what you mean on dual purpose lol I really wanted to believe that when production slows or whatever, I could just cook em up. Now I think I’ll be going along with your dual purpose model and only stewing the bullies lol

Uh...what do you mean? That sounds perfectly normal to me!!! :lau

My avatar is Lucy. She is my oldest hen, at nearly 4, and doesn't lay any eggs anymore. But, she is a sweet girl.

:welcome Congratulations on all of the wonderful changes in your lives!
You are going to absolutely melt when you see your baby interacting with the flock. My girl was barely walking when she began collecting eggs. She did an assist before she was two. It’s all so magical!
I wish you luck in getting your garden started, and your wife an easy delivery!
