Hey all, my name is Christopher Sanchez. I’m an American living in QLD Australia with my Misses (our baby girl in her tummy), red cattle dog, and our new Ameraucana flock (sold as Auracanas but the rumpless aren’t available here so I can only assume that due to strict import laws this is as close as we get. So “true Araucanas by Australia’s standards, I suppose) of seven. They’re about 3 months from laying and we’re really excited! We’re also hopefully picking up a breeding pair of show quality copper marans (one black one blue) this week so later on down the road we can try for our own olive eggers!!

[1]. Neither of us are new to chickens, she grew up with them and I had a flock of 14 about 6/7 years ago.. but we recently got our own place and had the freedom to get what breed(s) we wanted specifically, their colours, etc.

[2]. We currently have 7 chickens: one blue cockerel, one blue pullet, three lavender pullets and two black pullets.

[3]. Ameraucanas are the only breed we have currently but are looking to add Blue and Black Copper Marans to our flock soon!

[4]. Our favourite part about having our own flock is everything that come with the word. They are our responsibility, our choice, our labour and our reward. It’s great to watch their personalities and pecking order develop, and they are just entertaining little characters.

[5] Other hobbies we have are painting, playing music, staying fit and active, camping and travelling and we are in the process of starting our own garden!

Bonus: We found BYC due to my involuntary NEED to get ALL the information possible about anything we involve ourselves in lol thanks for accepting us into the group and we can’t wait to do more homework!!
Can't say I blame ya; we are indeed a fun and informative group of Cluckers. Sometimes one just can't help but join us, so welcome. All of you go ahead, enjoy the Outback, and get your flock on. We're looking forward to your input as we all learn and grow together.

Cheers mate! It’s so different to other keeping communities. People actually want and are willing to help you here. My experience with reptiles and dogs was much different! So glad to be a part

A big welcome to the site, @KhalSancho - and a big congrats on having a little one on the way!
:welcome
We are so glad to have you all here, and happy to help answer any questions you may have. You have a wonderful starting flock. Also, did you pick your Cattle Dog up in Australia, or bring over from the USA? We have a Red Heeler ourselves!

So happy to be here and thanks for the warm welcome! We’re so excited about the baby and our new flock and lifestyle! Stellar, my heeler, WAS my partners Mums dog.. but when we moved there temporarily, she was the only dog kept outside and wasn’t really looked after.. tbh I found her in a small metal chicken coop and that’s where she had spent at least a year. It broke my heart and I basically told her Mum she was mine now lol she became an inside dog immediately. She gets steak, lamb Backstrap, chicken or burgers with us at least 3/4 times a week on top of her kibble but usually a solid 7 days a week lol She’s just the happiest little girl now, and the BEST dog I’ve ever had! Beautiful temperament, so soft and gentle with us but IN that coop she was living in before.. her Mum said Stellar had been cornered by n killed 2 brown snakes (like top 2/3 deadliest) and a red belly black! I know this is the backyard chickens territory, but.. Stellar is such a great gal, and so attentive and concerned with the chooks. She comes out with me to feed them every morning and she’ll sit at the coop door just guarding them, like she knows they’re her lil siblings lol so, here’s 1 quick shot (sorry if not appropriate for this group) of the best dog I ever had, and THE Number 1 Chicken Guardian, Stellar! Is yours male or female, and how old? Aren’t they AMAZING pups!?
