Pleased to be part of the club!!

Thanks heaps! Aww, can’t wait til we get to collect as a little family.. honestly I could watch them for hours and be content so I believe it! What breed(s) do you have in your flock?

We have 2 silver-laced wyandottes, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 buff brahmas, 2 easter eggers, 1 silver-gray dorking, 1 dominique, 1 salmon favorelles, and 1 speckled sussex. I think I'd like to try welsummers or marans next for darker eggs.

Oh wow, quite the variety! Love silver laced Wyandotte’s! And quite a few of the others.. but a silver laced Wyandotte or barnevelders are a couple of my favourites as far as colouring! Yeah, we can’t wait for the Marans as well. Out of your flock, what are the most “friendly and handle able”?

They're all very personable and come running when they see me. The buff orpingtons, favorelles, and dorking are probably the friendliest and easiest to handle--these are the ones I pick up and allow my kids to pet. The sussex, dominique, and brahmas have become bolder and easier to handle now that they have started laying. I picked the brahmas for my kids because they are reputed to be very calm and friendly. Mine are not as friendly as I was expecting perhaps because they are hatchery birds or I didn't handle them enough as chicks. The wyandottes and the easter eggers dislike being handled the most.

Welcome to BYC! Thanks for joining our flock!! You know what's almost as cute as human babies? Baby ducks and geese  I think your little chicken nugget would love a flock of them!!
Wildfires are so scary...stay safe! With all the fires in California, there are several threads with ideas to keep your flock safe!

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Congrats on your coming baby! Sounds like you have a colorful flock. Would love to see pictures. I think your approach of learning everything you can about them is a good one. You will be helping folks on here before you know it. Meantime, if you have questions, ask away. Lots of knowledgeable people here!
Just posted an album {:, I messed up the order though lol so, it should go second page then first page

Thank you for the warm welcomes! Lol before we moved from her Mum’s we had about a dozen ducks! In fact, I’m tasked with making another a frame so my partners favourite Muscovy, Yellow, can move in with us I also have a favourite at her Mum’s who’s an all black Muscovy, Torpedo.. But we can only take one with us, and Torpedo is a mule so no eggs But it’s probably better because with the fires and the droughts.. we wouldn’t be able to afford to keep a kids pool filled up for both of them (Yellows a bully lol) because it evaporates so quick here even in the shade.. I’ll be sure to check those threads out, thanks heaps!

Hey all, my name is Christopher Sanchez. I’m an American living in QLD Australia with my Misses (our baby girl in her tummy), red cattle dog, and our new Ameraucana flock (sold as Auracanas but the rumpless aren’t available here so I can only assume that due to strict import laws this is as close as we get. So “true Araucanas by Australia’s standards, I suppose) of seven. They’re about 3 months from laying and we’re really excited! We’re also hopefully picking up a breeding pair of show quality copper marans (one black one blue) this week so later on down the road we can try for our own olive eggers!!

[1]. Neither of us are new to chickens, she grew up with them and I had a flock of 14 about 6/7 years ago.. but we recently got our own place and had the freedom to get what breed(s) we wanted specifically, their colours, etc.

[2]. We currently have 7 chickens: one blue cockerel, one blue pullet, three lavender pullets and two black pullets.

[3]. Ameraucanas are the only breed we have currently but are looking to add Blue and Black Copper Marans to our flock soon!

[4]. Our favourite part about having our own flock is everything that come with the word. They are our responsibility, our choice, our labour and our reward. It’s great to watch their personalities and pecking order develop, and they are just entertaining little characters.

[5] Other hobbies we have are painting, playing music, staying fit and active, camping and travelling and we are in the process of starting our own garden!

Bonus: We found BYC due to my involuntary NEED to get ALL the information possible about anything we involve ourselves in lol thanks for accepting us into the group and we can’t wait to do more homework!!
