plotting rescue

Rock on Sistah! Our poor husbands

- P.S. tell me about empathy - for years I have rescued "wooly bear catterpillers " trying to cross the busy streets. I ferry them to the over side and put them down somewhere safe. They probably turn right around and go back when I leave but, I feel better about it. I also feel terrible when somekid's balloon gets loose and heads skyward and is impaled by a tree limb. Okay I guess this a gray area between healthy empathy and a straitjacket. I'm sure I'm the healthy one but, I don't know about you and the earthworm rescue.lol

Thanks!

I enjoy knowing that folks are going to get the info they need...best part is that several TSC employees have come so they can help. They have to have the small rolls of chicken wire and whatnot set up because the chain programs the sales floor that way, but the mgr learned that they all need to recommend hardware cloth and they staged that in the same area.

It's very good for the store, as they pass info along that makes the customer feel well loved and informed...and I hand out business cards with my favorite thread on BYC for new folks...

CUZ I LOVES MY BYC!!!

Isn't that the truth!?

Me straightjacket?

What's that? My hubby tells me he got me a new jacket with wrap-around sleeves...

I had a tree full of wooly caterpillars overhanging my peafowl grow out pen last fall...every day I went in and collected them so I could put them out in the woods where they would be 'safe' ...and cue the funny farm music! They're coming to take me away, hee hee...to the funny farm...

I think that the world needs as much kindness as possible! It might be a good idea to call tsc corporate office and inform them of the situation. That might help counterbalance the effect of the "buy out" on unwell/improperly cared-for chicks. On their "books" it just looks like those bantams were REALLY popular. I'm glad that they have a loving home now. Good luck!

you remember that song "they're coming to take me away?" I was a teenager when it came out and I hated it then. People always told me the men in white coats would come for me. When I started seeing a grownup doctor(not pediatrician), I watched him come up the stairs to his office and Yep he was wearing a white coat but all I could think was "Wow, what a hunk." I started liking going to the doctor after that. But he didn't come for me after all - he had a wife and kids - rats!!!

Oh, I almost forgot. My bantam chicks (and other chicks) like watermelon. I cut them a small hunk, rind and all. I score it a bit (at first) and sprinkle with a bit of their food to get them pecking at it. I think something fresh is beneficial to their health. Enzymes, carbs, vitamins etc.

My mother thought it was the funniest thing to start singing that when we got goofy when I was growing up. We didn't have much, but we had a good sense of humor and a lot of laughs! We'd get so we were just rolling on the floor in stitches, sobbing, and she'd start singing it...

That's actually a great suggestion- you could also use cantaloupe. The distraction may be enough to get your little 'pecker' out of solitary and into pecking something he gets rewarded for!

I have been known to use a tomato sliced in half, too, sprinkled in a bit of sand or parakeet grit.

Man, I don't have any tomatoes or cantelope..... bummer! He is so loud, and I know he is lonesome, but I know he will start picking right away if I just put him back in... ugh!
