Hi, I have 6, 4 weeks old st run barred rocks and can't tell difference in pullets and roos. If anyone has pics of month old pullets and roos I would appreciate it so I can compare mine to. Thanks

My understanding is that BRs can be sexed by color up to a few days old, but then you have to wait to see if they lay an egg or crow after that. Did you get them as day olds? If you did, did you take pics and know who is who in those pics?

starting to feel like a thread killer! Finally get some rocks - post pics and all goes silent! LOL

Anyways i was curious if there was a breed club that i could look into joining?

Thanks!

I am getting a few BR's from IDeal in June. Anybody else bought their BR's from them? How are their personality? Do they tend to fly?

I would hesitate to call them barred rocks, but I have had them. They were friendly active birds, and they were great layers. They did tend to fly when they were younger and lighter. There was a couple of smaller hens that would clear a four foot fence after they matured, but most stopped (or were not able to). They are good layers (even in winter) of medium large light brown eggs for a backyard laying flock. I would not recommend them for exhibition or breeding on with them and call them barred rocks. We called them production rocks. There is nothing wrong with them if that is what you want.

My chickies showed up yesterday!! I am like a proud mama, just have to post pictures
