Plymouth Rock thread!

I've been checking around, and checking into the possibility of using a good quality barred rock hen to improve size and type in my SPPR flock as well. From the folks that I've spoken with, who have a very good working knowledge of poultry genetics, nutshell version I got was that yes, it can be done, but that it would take as long or longer to get the pattern back into the bird than it would to just keep breeding your best pullets/hens back to your best cock bird. At least, though, the size issue woudl be resolved likely in the first generation!

can someone post a pic of an exhibition rooster ???

I would really appriciate it, needing pics to compare

I would love for someone to post Show quality pics of Partridge Rocks. Just love the way they look, and give me a good idea of exactly what t olook for. I have found books that explain what they should look like but would love to see an exhibition quality myself.

Has anyone else have a barred rock chick born with no spot or spotting on its head? All black head - absolutely 100% barred rock chick - jsut curious - and what gender this may be ? Not had this before - usually have the classic tell tale spotting Thanks!

NO, but I did have 3 barred chicks hatch out from a White Pltmouth Rock rooster over Red/Gold Sex-Link hens
18 hatched 3 barred, 1 Idon't know what color it is yet, 2 chipomunky looking ones, and 12 white.
