Plymouth Rock thread!

O.K., thanks. I have to go take some pics now, all of my first generation pullets have lacing and all of the cockerels are barred. I thought that is what you are supposed to get with a splash over barred?? The splash cockerel came from Halo. I thought your blues were from her too?? ......stan
Quote: I have never been able to get any from Halo... they came through the grapevine from Original Halo eggs. Mine came from a Barred Roo x blue and splash pullets. This is the result. Not sure how the lacing is getting on your pullets. I would love to see that! I would love to have some laced pullets, but mostly I need a Blue or Black roo

Been looking for over a year and NO LUCK on eggs or Roos. I am down to just 2 hens 1 blue and 1 splash. Taking the LONG ROAD to make my own Black or Blue Roo. I need to get on that now, but the hen is not laying.

This is the first cross of the Halo splash roo over my GS barred pullets. I just got rid of 20 cockerels that I was picking from. I still have 8 or so that are a few months younger that this guy. ;

WOW that is nice lacing..... I NEED SOME OF THOSE! Are you going to put them with a Solid Blue Roo? What are you going to do with those now that you have them is what I am getting at??????????

The SOP calls for solid blue birds to be "distinctively laced with glossy black". Looks like you have a really good start. It is my understanding that the lacing comes from a combination of the pattern gene and the columbian gene. Perhaps the GS Barreds are carrying the columbian gene and that is where the lacing is coming from

Good job!!

I'm thinking I'll spend a lot of time just looking at 'em.

I have kept the ones with the best lacing and size, and will breed them to a blue barred cockerel, just to get a splash cockerel for the next years breeding pen. My only breeding ambition with them is to keep the lacing, increase the size and egg laying. I really would like to get the leg color to where it is supposed to be. You seem to have been able to get a yellow leg on a blue bird. I may try some of the GSBRs from the line Jeremy has. He seems to have done some improving on legs I will continue to breed the GSBR hens with a splash roo from this line to produce the same thing, sex linked -blue laced pullets , blue barred cockerels. I just like the blues, and hope to have a layer flock of them that will be better producers.....hope I can get close to Halo's egg layers with these, ,,,stan

All of the pullets from this breeding are laced, and all of the cockerels are barred. Never seen a laced cockerel like you would find in Partridge. They do seen to get better lacing when they come from a crisply barred bird like the GSBRs. Scott, do you still have the Stukel birds? If so, how is the leg color on them?? ...stan
