Sorry I couldn't help. I was told they were nice birds and I am so looking forward to picking them up at the end of the month. :D Come Feb or early March I would love to add a few partridge and penciled rocks. Too many choices...lol.

Well my broody gave up today. For 17 days she sat nice and tight, could not get her to stop, they were due on Saturday. This morning, she was off the nest, thought not a big deal since they do get off every now and then, but watched her this evening while going about the chicken chores, not only did she not go back and sit, but she got in the nest and was scratching around flinging the eggs everywhere. So I pulled her out and felt the eggs and they were ICE cold. Let her out with her flock and she showed no interest to get back on the nest. Then at bed time, she roosted instead of getting back in the flock nest.

Not a huge loss, figured it would not work anyway since it was her first time. Really did not need chicks anyway, but was hopeful that she would be a great mom. O'well, maybe next time, will toss the eggs. Really just want eggs anyways, not babies, so I hope she gets back to laying soon.....

I know, but I have one of those Hovabators that needs to run for a few days before I trust it on top of that she also pooped all over the eggs.... I mean a HUGE broody poop that covers the nest, really GROSS

Just gonna move along, if she goes broody again when I am serious I will have the bator running and ready for such an occurrence.

I'll have some blue eggs in a few weeks if the lazy girls ever start to lay enough to ship!! My birds are from Good Shepherd pullets and a splash from Halo. 100% sex linked blues. See the page 329 for recent picks of a few pullets and a cockerel or 2 posted by me and others. Just love the blues!! . ....stan

I will have NEW blood come Spring. I have a new UNRELATED ROO a Good Shepard Barred Rock and some New pullets so my birds in the spring will be UNRELATED to the ones you have now. Besides, each of your lines will be genetically different than the others so you could swap eggs. Really all you need is a Barred rock, blue and black breed together will give you 50/50 of each color. That is how I breed them blue to black. I don't breed Blue to Blue since I am working to get the barring better, a black helps with the barring.

Stan, I LOVE that cross you made, I may have to get some of those eggs. I would so love to have some blues to work with and if YFOR can get me a Black roo or two I will be in hog heaven! I have some projects chicks growing out and can't wait to see what I get from my cross. Hoping for that pretty lacing you got.
