he is not blue lol. just a reg barred rock color from my blue barred girls and the good Shepard BR roo


I think I like him too. his barring is very different from his sire. not terrible....just different.


I don't keep blue barred roos. I only keep blue barred pullets. I don't want splash barred rocks really.

He's barred(V-eed) like Dominique males. I have a male that was like that from the get go but he is more white mostly every where now, he is an older one at 5 he is a Ideal  hatchery product. Made for great layers, he sired

I just got a better.picture I can't post from my phone rhough. he seemed v-ed in his hackles not so much through his body. maybe if I cross him back to GSBR pullets it will improve the barring. has not been a big deal to me with the blues as just getting the barring to show up is hard enough lol.

We live in Schuyler VA and only want the hens for eggs, but we would like to have Barred Plymouth Rock Hens. We would prefer to purchase them at laying size. Any ideas about where we might locate some in Virginia? Thanks.

Well, what do ya'll think, pullet or cockerel?? I bought him/her as a 'pullet' but I'm not so sure anymore.. she/he is extremely aggressive and vocal for being 16 weeks, but is not crowing. I just don't know anymore.

My Barred Rock cockerel is 14 weeks and looks WAAAAAYY different than the bird in your picture. (mine is my avatar pic) His wattles and comb are bright red and have been for several weeks and his barring is different. I think you just have one mean old pullet.

It's totally normal for an older pullet to pick on younger birds. Especially at that age. She is a teenager, trying to be the boss.

My hatchery rocks were always EXTREMELY loud. I loved it. It is the reason I expanded my chicken hobby as much as I did. Dixie was our first Barred Plymouth Rock, and I loved that chicken. She'd talk to me all the time. Tell me how her day was, how she didn't like the new rooster, how it was too cold, or too hot, how her water needed changed and how it was treat time. She was also head hen, so she'd make sure everyone was in order.



She was really bossy until everyone was of laying age. Then she settled down.

I've been attached to maybe 5 chickens total. She was very special.

Are you absolutely certain of her age?

I just got back from the post office with my Danny Padgett SPPR eggs. I only purchased one dozen eggs but he sent 21 eggs. The eggs are packaged very well and look to be in great shape. I am very thankful for the extra eggs that Danny sent and look forward to doing more business with him in the future.
