Plymouth Rock thread!

I get the whole "lock and key" deal. I've got some juveniles upon whom rests my future plans for late spring. They are invaluable to me, especially after having suffered some losses in early June. Had a couple "situations" shall we say. No more of that.

When they do get let out for an hour or so in the evenings, I'm usually out there with walking around. Sorry for the fuzzy photo, but the dang flash didn't go off. I am inept as a photographer.

WOW Fred......she is looking GREAT! Barring looks very good, but look at that LONG flat back, NO cushion and well rounded front end!!! Tail lift looks like its coming along and wow, what feather quality.....feathering is nice and tight to the point you can see the outline of the thigh (no "over fluffy" bird here), and would ya look at those yella legs!! WOW....are you sure you don't want to send her "south for the winter"??

Did someone say BARREDS? Mine are pretty much over their molts, thankfully. Here are my three 2 1/2 yr old Stukel line hens and Indy, the son out of the largest hen with my Del rooster. Amazing how well he is barred, considering he's a cross; I keep saying that, but I still can't get over it, that and his giant size. He's not quite 20 weeks old and he is as tall as my knee already, with a head about as large as his sire's. So far, excellent temperament.

Dottie, who is often broody:

Wynette:

Ida, largest hen and mother to Indy:

Indy, who will be my new main flock leader when Isaac passes on, barring complications:

That is a 5 gallon bucket he's towering over and he's not even standing tall here.

Those Stukel girls are simply amazing. Such a good example of what a real Heritage Rock should look like. GREAT long backs, sweeping tail, not too high, SUPER yella legs, barring (IMHO) looks exceptional, WIDE skulls and lacking cushions that so many Rocks seem to exhibit these days!....and often overlooked, but very important, look at the wing carriage on each of these girls....almost PERFECT. Amazing

NOTHING LIKE A GREAT LOOKING BARRED ROCK!

Nah. Not this year. LOL. She and two or three of her sisters got a date to keep to make some F2's. The type is fine. Just gotta tighten up that perm and paint and they'll be just fine. We don't do cushions around here.

BTW, she is HUGE for her age. She can stop anytime.

Scott, they are really something, aren't they? Can't have a better bunch of BR hens. I agree, a well turned out BR, hen or rooster, is a sight to behold. I can't wait to breed Indy back to his mother and aunts and see what we get. His size is stupendous. He is slow to mature as far as mating the hens, though. Haven't seen him do it yet, not even once, though I've seen him "think" about it a couple of times.

Fred, I delete many more photos than I post. My cheap camera just doesn't flash when it should and shutter speed is like molasses so I feel your pain.

Cyn, I know you know this, but a true Del, of the quality you had, is 1/3 Barred Rock in composition, so this may explain the super quality we see in your young man. I've watched his photos, as you've posted them. He's dynamite and it is going to be a hoot to see what he sires with those gorgeous Stukel hens. Cannot wait to see them next spring.

ETA: You ought to see vigor like nobody's business.
