Yes, they're my birds.

Well, I don't own the male any longer, but still have the female. I love BRs, in large part due to ease of sexing.

They are pretty birds...

But where's the challenge in sexing?!

That's part of the fun!

Sorry...been lurking on here for awhile. Mainly just watch since my Barred Rocks are on the backburner to the Langshans.

I still think she is a hen though even though she is that color. My uncle had a light rooster BR and dark hen BR but when they hatched chicks a lot of the hens were even lighter than the roo so... I will look at her now and see

Now why can't all your broodiness rub off on me? Will someone let me rub the magic chicken so I can get a broody? (now watch, next year I'll have LOADS of them and you'll hear me complaining)

Morning all....

I lost a Col Rock roo and a pullet to this *&%%$^^& hot weather over the weekend. 3 days at 100F+ and humidity at 80% or more. Last night at 11pm, temp was still 85F.

I HATE SUMMER.....can't wait for cooler weather.

All my other chooks are good. Still can't seem to break my 2 broody black rock girls. I am going to try sticking bricks in the nest box today to see if that will keep them off the nest!!

Hoping for cooler weather and a little rain here. Need to get some new pix of the BRs and CRs to post here. My cokcerels in both bunches are looking really sharp!

Take care all....and stay cool

Here's updated pictures of my 2 SPPR girls from Wynette. They are 4 months old exactly. Just had to patch one of them up last night as the Splash Orp cockeral in with them is trying to mate them (he's the same age as they are). I heard her squawking and saw him on her, then when I went to check, she was bleeding on the right side of her comb.

If I felt bad about offing him before, I don't now.

Excuse the messy run, I need to relocate their coop again, but it's so darn hot. They always knock over the outside waterer. The inside one they never knock over, but for some reason, they don't do well with the outside waterer (on a cinderblock)

Anyhow, here's the girls. They are starting to really show their lacing.
