On your boy - yes, I think that's going to be ONE nice fella!

Can I get some of you "Eggsperts" here to weigh in on how my 14 ish week old BR's stack up? I don't have dreams of perfection or selling chicks, but would like to know if my chooks resemble a "GOOD" Barred Rock. I don't really know what to look for. I got them from a local guy and really only purchased them because of the low price... I know better now.

Remember "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"!! Do you like 'em?

Personally, I raise BRs (and am working on a show quality flock) and yours don't look bad at all. Cockerel has a nice flat back, he will fill out some more with time. I notice a few feathers on the ground with perfectly straight barring (that's what you are looking for), try to avoid "V"s or "M" type barring. Legs are nice and yellow. Good small combs on the girls

Not a bad start

Only real "faults" I can see are the roo seems to have too many comb points (who cares, big deal!!) and his tail is a bit high...but again, who cares if you like him!!!

For a point of reference, here are pictures of the parents (NOTICE, I SAID PARENTS, not mine!!) of the birds I am raising now

Tom, I agree he looks nice. Not show quality, but nice quality. I also saw too many points on the comb, but I believe this is more easily corrected than other issues. (still new to breeding, so take it with a grain of salt)

Thanks for the replies!! I think they are absolutely gorgeous! I'm not QUITE show quality myself so we were obviously made for each other.

It's nice to know they are not BR rejects at least. I can't wait until they fill out and get all grown up. The plump look is so nice.

Edited for spelling.

We all know you're gonna take a look at the roosters Kathy has and you won't be able to resist. Make sure you show us pics when you come home with him.

I may have to sneak them into the rental car, past my wife.

I mean: NO! I do not need any BR roosters.......

Exactly how many are we talking?

Maybe we can duct tape them to the JG's and say they are Siamese twins?
