Plymouth Rock thread!

When do hatchery white rocks start to lay? I have one that is around 14 weeks and her comb and wattles are BRIGHT red. I knew she would lay sooner age wise than my Silver Penciled Rocks, they are 25 weeks and no where near as red, but not actually before them time wise. There is no worry that the white rock is a pullet

, I know what Roos look like and she is all girl.

Totally depends on the strain the hatchery is using, the feeding program you've had them and the individual maturity rate of the bird. As you know, if you had a flock of a dozen, they'd come on in a dribble and a drab over a 3 week period, or so. Even for hatchery stock, I'd be amazed at sooner than 18 weeks.

Thanks, I don't think she is ready now, just surprised at how red she got prior to the SPRs. My SPRs are really going to make me wait, at 25 weeks only one is reddish, the others are very light pink. However, they are so pretty they are going to be worth the wait

Sure, here she is with her one of her SS and Barnevlder sisters and her Barne Roo in the background, I have to say that her and her 2 SS sisters are my favs!!!! They love to be petted and held, none of my others do, regardless of breed, age, or quality. Also, I need to update my tag line, 1 of the White Rocks and 1 SS turned out to be boys, so they were re-homed and now run free in a green meadow, with lots of bugs and other roos friends, that is actually true, this guy takes any unwanted roos and lets them free range.

More pics just because I can

Here are all the girls and 1 of the Roos. I really like the Roos, so far they are the best boys I have ever had. They don't fight each other anymore, they did when they were younger, guess they worked it out

Wow 35 from 2 hens!!! Mine are from Dick Hortsman, the hens are okay, not fond of them but I don't dislike them, but the Roos I adore. They never ruffle their feathers at me, like every other roo that I have ever had. They also come running as soon as they see me, to check for treats, if I have them great, if not they just calmly walk away, just very non aggressive, it is a nice change.
