Plymouth Rocks or Buff Orpingtons

I vote buff orphingtons. We have 3 of each (including a BR cockerel). They are all young, so I can't speak to egg production, but I find that the BO's have more personality. They make me laugh the most. Also, I don't know if this is true of all BO's / BR's or just mine, but I find the BO's to be much quieter, and they have nice voices. The BR's are pretty chatty and have a tragic-sounding honk, and I'm always afraid the neighbors will hear.

They're both adorable, though. Can't go wrong!

I have both and am FAR more in favor of the Buffs. The Barred Rocks delight in escaping from their pens and getting eaten, and didn't lay FOREVER, while the Buffs stay where they belong and begin laying eggs much younger.

The Buffs are more tolerant and quiet too, the BR will run from me but the BO tend to just avoid him by the barest minimum and are fairly easy to catch if need be.

My BO eggs are slightly smaller, but they are still just pullets and much younger than the BR, but they are laying consistently, while the BR are being slow and picky.

Buffs!

... but I will say I love my partridge rocks.

I have to weigh in with my opinion...I thought that I would love my BO because I kept hearing how nice they were. Mine seem to be on the shy side and do not interact with me nearly as much as my Rocks do. I have to say that so far a prefer them!

Buff Orpingtons. I have 15 and they are the friendliest things I've ever seen. I raised them going on grasshopper hunts and helping me in the veggie garden. Spoiled rotten. At this point I couldn't imagine life without my B.O.s....(or my Silkies, Black Australorps, or my Seramas) love them all.

But honestly I want to try out a couple of Plymouth Rocks too!!

I get some real nice large eggs from my buff orps and they have a much quieter disposition than the rocks I have had in the past. I say BO's all the way.

i think BR eggs r suuper dependable, biGGer, and SUPER friendly alway follows me n stays next to me. plus she acts like a mother to the youger chicks and keeps them warm at nite by lettin them sleep under her wing!
