Polish Hen shot in head with BB gun

Thanks so much for the info. Makes me feel better. She really isn't acting any differently. I just went to check on her again, and she is alert. Seems fine. And thanks everyone for the support. I am a little unhappy with the kid.His Mom walked over with the him and his friend to tell me what happened, then walked with me to get the hen. She is really nice, and could have just left the hen there to die, so I really couldn't be ugly about it. They just moved in a few months ago, and are really nice people, but the little boy really didn't show much remorse. That kinda was upsetting. He said he thought he was shooting a bald eagle-go figure. I think he knew just what he was shooting. He got too good a shot to not know- right in her head. I think he would have to have been real close to get such a good shot. He's been walking around with that BB gun for the past couple of weeks, and I knew something bad was going to happen. If not the chickens, then the horses, or one of my kids, for that matter. But she did take the gun away, thank goodness. Paula

if you own a bb gun how about sneaking off a nice shot in the middle of his back from way off? Just kidding, of course. We used to shoot eachother with bb guns all the time as kids, but I think they make them a lot higher pressure these days. Someone could get hurt.

i know its hard, but i would still call the police..even if it just puts a scare into this kid (that has no remorse)...and teaches his mother to not let a kid carry around a BB gun anymore... and also, this kid does sound scary!...it starts with animal abuse you know....

That's crazy, but I do remember my brothers doing the same thing all those years ago. But I do believe you about them having higher pressure now. I just hope this teaches him a lesson, but I doubt it. I like the community service idea, but I don't think I want him around my chickens. Maybe I'll make him clean horse stalls. Yeah, that's an idea..

I know, but I would really feel bad for the parents. They really are nice people. I think she just needs to keep a closer eye on her son. Hopefully she will now. I do know that if I see him with the BB gun anytime soon, I will go have a talk with them.

hi Paula..i know..i would also feel bad about the parents...but he did delibertly AIM and shoot the bird..that is what is bothering me so much....its tough..i'd hate to be in your shoes right now...and BTW..if you have him clean stalls...i'd supervise him 100%...because i'm telling you..that children that abuse animals is a tried and PROVEN true way to tell if a kid has some serious problems..ESPECIALLY with the no remorse ( i work with very high risk children..and i see it ALOT..thats why i was saying i think its important to call the authorities..)...i wish you and this child and the poor hen my best. take care, Wendy
