Polish sexing

Thank you so much for taking the time to look.

So far I like them. They are very skittish until they start to trust you. Which has taken me about 6 weeks to there. Not seeing a real difference between the two so far. They don't like to be with out each other. Very tight knit. But they respond to the names I gave them. They are small nothing like my other chickens. We shall see as they get older. Thanks again for your time.

Interesting. We shall see indeed. @BastyPutt has your experience with the breed been similar?

OK I need you to put in a good word for polish. How are the males? Are they friendly? How are the females? Are they skittish? Do they go broody? ( I know the answer to the last but I'm feeding false hope)
I typically don't categorize an entire breed, but polishes are different in my book and are hands down the most friendly and personable. They are really the only ones we keep bred pure for this reason.

The roosters lack intellegence. They really are noticeably not smart in comparison to standard breeds and they seem not be as motivated to do normal rooster things, like crowing and breeding.

Obviously not egg laying machines - but that isn't their purpose.

My 10 year old son has led the charge in keeping the Polish flock. He recently won the county fair with his buff laced rooster - and here that is a big deal. He subsequently sold it to a local lady for a pretty penny, which allow him to add to his Pokémon collection 😂 priorities.

But yes, in general, as long as I have chickens, I will keep polishes.

OK, so basically a silkie that's an actual chicken? Are they hardy at all? For a vaulted breed at least

That is exactly it. I don't keep silkies because they are so seemingly fragile. But they are very sweet, which is exactly what the Polish is.

Not at all, no. Our county accepts a lot of unrecognized varieties. I don't understand a whole lot about genetics, but I know you can breed two different kinds together and come out with some recognizable.

If you ever wanted to show, What you are looking for in cockerels is how lanky they are, and how long their hat feathers are. Those are what score high. I'm actually out here now with them, and this guy we are super excited about. He is a real stunner. He came from a white crested blue hen and rooster, and would be considered a splash.

Good information 👍 Bob seem to be the leader of the pack so far. While Pepper just waits and watches. Sonny and Piper (pullets) are very sweet. Just take them a little while to get close. I hope I can pick your brain as we go forward. I know nothing about Polish so I've been reading everything I can.

Thank you I have so much to learn. I hope I can pick you wisdom as we go forward.

Yep whatever you need.

If you have them with other cockerels, be aware that their head feathers are a serious target for the other bigger cockerels. They will pick those right out.

Aside from that, you've got yourself a nice looking flock.

He's a real looker for sure. It'll be interesting to see how similar the US standard is to the European one. Friendliness is a really big thing when breeding birds to the SOP, you need to be able to handle them so that's good. Good to know that they're not as fragile as the silkies, because I've definitely had some bad experiences with those

Thanks I read that so we are going to build them a different coop.
