Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there Polish lovers...I have three polish hens in my flock now. Hatched on April 4th. Got them from Murray McMurray. Two are the golden laced and the other is a white crested black. One of my golden laced, Mop, is so heavily feathered on top she can't see where the other girls have gone and is frightened. I feel so sorry for her.

Is there a way that I can give her better vision by cutting back her head feathers without causing pain or discomfort? They are 12 weeks old now and the other golden lace, Broom, has less of a head dress compared to Mop. I will have to trim Q-tips feathers as well. I have regular hens and roosters and these girls will have to be separated from the rest of the flock because of pecking. My hubby will love me for this.

We had a real big down pour of rain yesterday and I would guess she couldn't find her way back to the coop because she was the only one soaking wet from head to tail. Poor baby. I have read that you can clip the feathers but I am scared to do that without some demonstration. I'm drawn to the weaker birds. Ugh! I would have them live in the house with us. Pathetic!

7 day old Chewbacca, our Gold Laced Polish, on her 1st adventure outdoors. Even though she thought outside was the coolest thing ever, she kept hopping up in my hand for some cuddles. She caught a little bug today!

She did! The thing that amazed me was that they all stayed close, & kept checking in with me for physical contact & love. Then hopped down to peck at the ground some more. This is my first experience raising baby chickens, and they are so much better characters than I ever imagined! My fiance has already sworn off ever eating chicken meat again LOL.

That is soo sweet! I never get tired of watching baby chicks play outside. I am 61 years old and have been raising chickens and watching the chickens and the babies almost all my life and still get a kick out of watching them. It never gets boring.

Are there any guidelines for how far back to trim them? Specifically, do you have to watch out for a 'quick' in the feathers? I used to have a pet cockatiel, and when I trimmed his wings I had to look for the quick & avoid it.

First picture is our golden polish Puff Daddy and the second picture is our buff laced polish Mrs. Buff Laced. I love the way that our golden polish turned out he's sooo pretty and handsome! Our Buff laced polish is such a diva it's too cute!
