My guess would be pullets but don't take that as gospel!!! They dont look very red wattle area. My cockerels had reddening at 8 weeks and all the great people here said my pics were pullets and yours look like mine and mine are pullets. Have to say they look lovely birds.

Thank you! Binks is so soft & her color is beautiful, and though I love the way Chewie looks, she looks more like what I'd call a 'Golden Spangled'. There is little actual lacing going on in her. But she is beautiful; I'll tell her you said so

I understand what you mean about the not much lacing I have three like that. I ordered black crested white and chamois eggs 6 of each I had a100% hatch and out of the 12 three like that popped out. Not sure if egg seller did me or if it's some kind of throw back? Have still made lovely birds though and two of them have a few white feathers in the crest all very confusing.

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know their feathers would wear down. She is free range, but she doesn't really come out of the coop as much as the others. She is what they call "a big chicken". She won't go anywhere without her sister so if her sister runs out without her she will just hang out in the coop. So, I don't know if her feathers will wear down if she's not getting out much. And as for the fencing...we have about two acres of property and can't quite afford fencing yet. Maybe that will be our project next spring. Two acres doesn't seem like all that much, but it can be expensive to enclose, even with just metal stake and plastic fencing. The flock has been pretty well trained to stay behind our house and even the newbies we got this spring take lead from the older ones and I haven't found them in our front yard. But Kimber...she just can't see AT ALL and got lost. I wish we didn't have cats because I would just take her in as an inside chicken. She's so sweet and gentle and would probably make a winning show bird for one of my boys to show in 4-H.

We didn't completely fence our yard. We divided it by using the rabbit fencing. A chicken doesn't need a full 2 acres to forage and a roll of rabbit fence usually keeps them contained if they are finding enough yummies on their side. From reading other people's posts on the timid or jittery behaviors of their chickens some can stay timid their whole lives. If your Polish is still a pullet she'll get braver as she matures. Not being able to see is not necessarily what causes shy behaviors. If my full crested Silkies really want to see they'll tilt their heads up and sideways to watch the sky or see where a human is walking so they can move out of the way. By adulthood they finally manage getting used to their vision navigation.

My rooster is a pansy. He is letting the silkies have dominance over him! He is on the bottom of the pecking order in the silkie coop! And he still doesn't crow. He's like 25 weeks now or something around there.

My roo is almost the same, he barely crows but is very friendly. I like him lower in the pecking order

My girls crest is so poofy she can't see.
I bought these baby elastics and they work great but she keeps pulling them out.
Any suggestions? I don't want to use tape I think she would hurt herself trying to get it out.

Have thought about a side trim? I trim mine rather than watch them suffer. How do I know it is hard on them...because chickens rely on their sight as their primary sense. I know a trim spoils their look a bit but mine are pets and not for show. I love too much not to do whatever I can to make their lives better. Besides, dont those bands spoil their look too?

I have three polish of my own. The two hens are named phillis (as in Phillis diller), and the other is named tuc (the ugly chicken) because she was hideous when she was little. I also have a rooster named baldie.

Just wondering, does anyone have chickens who fall asleep in your arms instantly? My chicken phillis will fall asleep in your arms if you stroke her aggro but otherwise is very scared of me. It is adorable!!!!

I don't show either, mine too are pets but I tried trimming in the beginning but it would grow SO fast. I cut then a week later it was covering her eyes again.
Thought mabye the ties would last longer...

I have an Ameraucana (my avatar) that is jittery and skittish but very sweet. Once she's in our arms she drops her head and closes her eyes. If you talk to her she'll carry on a cooing conversation with you and let's us pet her. We aren't holding her down so she can jump off if she wants but she'll stay in our arms a long time asleep. Outdoors she is wary and alert but once in arms she feels "safe" and relaxes. Our two Silkies are sweet but prefer not to be held unless we are indoors and they can relax in our lap.
