She's a bantam but not a pure polish its a polish crossed with a sultan or one of those other chickens that are in the pics

they are all the same age got around same time so is she not show quality and is there anything i need to be aware of about the breed

:goodpost: Is that how you make them??? then can I breed my bcw roo to my bcb hens and get the babies to breed true? P.s. you just blew my mind!
yep all u need is a blue bird if it's dark blue then u wont get as many blue babies if it's a light blue then u will likely get part dark blue part like blue ur ratio of blues will be higher !! I love bcb. So if we frizzle it I'm calling that a Pegasus ahahahaa

I am wondering the same thing. My poor girl got lost and ended up in the middle of the road the other day. Her sister, who is a frizzle and can actually see is like her little seeing eye dog. They are never apart, but for some reason they got separated and I think she wandered off trying to find her sister but she ended up way far from home. This is the first time any of my chickens has ended up in the road. She was lucky that my neighbor saw her because people drive around 60 out here in the country. I was just coming on here to ask for suggestions and it looks like someone has beat me to it. Her crest is so beautiful and full, I would hate to cut it, but I feel like if I put a colorful band in her feathers the other girls might pick on her. She has a hard enough time fitting in already. Her only friend is her frizzle sister pretty much...poor girl...

I don't know how large your property is but we use rolls of rabbit fencing to contain our Silkies from wandering and we don't clip or tie our Silkie crests. Dog owners should keep their animals secured and chicken owners should too - especially where there's busy traffic! There are 50 foot and 100 foot lengths of rabbit fencing and we clip the rolls together to make a long fence. They sell the little stakes to anchor the fences temporarily so you can move them around if you need to but we just keep ours stationary. We get the green plastic coated fencing and it's hardly noticeable visually but keeps the chickens contained. You want to think secure secure secure with gentle breeds like Silkies and Polish. I wouldn't cut chicken crests except as a last resort. If they free-range the feathers around the face wear down and they see fine. The pullets and cockerels have the fullest head feathers and by a year or two they wear down the feathers on their own. My accommodating Silkies groom each other to make little peep holes through their face feathers! After moult they'll be fuzzy for a couple months but the feathers will wear down again eventually.

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know their feathers would wear down. She is free range, but she doesn't really come out of the coop as much as the others. She is what they call "a big chicken". She won't go anywhere without her sister so if her sister runs out without her she will just hang out in the coop. So, I don't know if her feathers will wear down if she's not getting out much. And as for the fencing...we have about two acres of property and can't quite afford fencing yet. Maybe that will be our project next spring. Two acres doesn't seem like all that much, but it can be expensive to enclose, even with just metal stake and plastic fencing. The flock has been pretty well trained to stay behind our house and even the newbies we got this spring take lead from the older ones and I haven't found them in our front yard. But Kimber...she just can't see AT ALL and got lost. I wish we didn't have cats because I would just take her in as an inside chicken. She's so sweet and gentle and would probably make a winning show bird for one of my boys to show in 4-H.

We had two sets of chicks about 1 and a half weeks apart. In Trio A there was a wcb cockerel, a wcb pullet, and a white polish. In Trio B there was a Silkie Mix, a Wcb Pullet and a white polish.
So we finally set up a pen to put the six of them in. The first day went great. The last time they were all together, it was for a few minutes. No fighting after constant watch, so we left them for the night. But the next morning the youngest wcb pullet had a bald head and it was large and pretty red. That was at about 6:35am. We were very shocked. We knew she would die...we didnt have time so we got a cage top and set it back in the pen we had and puther and the other young polish in it. The other polish was fine, but we didnt want it to be bald too. Sadly, when I got home around 3:00pm, I found her dead in the cage.

Sad story, but we are confused. She was pretty feathered out, but had fluff on her crest. And there was a ring of feathers that had not been plucked out that surrounded her bald spot. We are wandering ife a chick could pluck another chick this bald. There was no feather quils or hole where the feathers were... just tiny black dots. Her dad and her oldest brother also have a slight balded spot under their crest. Its not very noticable unless you examine the spot. Could something else have done this to them? The dad and brother live completely alone in two different cages.

Sorry to hear your chick has passed away. I currently have polish that hatched on 27 June this year they live outside in coop and have large run. I have some white crested black, chamois and gold lace. Now one of the wcb is defiantly a cockerel and over the last week I have caught several of the others picking his crest out to the point now that he is nearly bald. So yes i do believe other chicks will do this it's like they become fixated and just can't stop themselves. My wcb is not too red or bleeding but if this behaviour continues I am going to have to separate him it seems only to be him who is getting picked on.

Hi, I'm hoping any of you may be able to help me sex my 9.5 week old sexed female Polish from Mypetchicken.com. These 2 have been worrying me with some rooish behavior:

Chewie, a Golden Laced, - are these the dreaded saddle feathers?:

And here is Binks, a Buff Laced:

They are both super sweet, to each other and us hoomans:

Any ideas?

My guess would be pullets but don't take that as gospel!!! They dont look very red wattle area. My cockerels had reddening at 8 weeks and all the great people here said my pics were pullets and yours look like mine and mine are pullets. Have to say they look lovely birds.
