Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ordered my chicks from my pet chicken too! I got my 15 chicks March 9th they are almost 3 weeks old. One of my chicks is a white crested black polish. They are all bantam females.

I got mine from MPC as well. My OE I got, sadly died and one of my banty Polish is definatly not banty. There goes $12! They are a okay place to get chicks, but now there are other places to get female bantys lol.

There are other places to get female bantam chicks?! A couple of my chicks had problems I had to force feed one, but they are all fine now none died! It might be because they have to get shipped in the mail for 3 days. I had never been mailed chicks before

I like the first and the third. Although the first is a little squirrel tailed his crest is spot on... The third one has a nice tail carriage and smaller but adequate crest...very globular and clean...I'd keep these two only and get them 3 hens apiece for good coverage and genetic diversity. This will be a great started population.   The second one has the best tail but there are black tips on several of his crest feathers and I think they will cause major deductions if not disqualification when showing.... and if you're breeding for quality you won't wont those genes.

Thank you very much for your opinion! I was thinking the same thing about roo number two. I am ordering some WC black chicks from Dick Hortsman so I can give them some ladies this fall. I have another question for you I have a splash frizzle rooster who has a smaller crest but otherwise looks ok. How hard is it to increase crest size? Does it take a long time?

Yes there is, I know of two others, but can only recalled the name of one. http://www.chickensforbackyards.com

I have ordered 9 chicks in two different orders from MPC, okay, okay they did pretty good, but the prices are terrible! :thud That's my biggest complaint lol. Otherwise, my birds where okay. All of my birds arrived in a single day. My OE did die after she was fully featherd, so I should clarify it wasn't exactly MPC's fault. I should of said the birds aren't to hardy ;), I have noticed issues with the adults.

So far as I know there are no restrictions to shipping to California, unless something has changed recently?

I called the CA State Vet office in Sacramento yesterday and there are currently no restrictions of poultry entering the State of CA as long as the particular shipped birds are certified tested free of AI and Newcastles.

Minnesota and 4 total Midwest states have the new AI strain and 10,000 commercial turkeys died in a matter of a few days in MN.

I ordered my chicks from My Pet Chicken in November for a delivery date in May. I haven't been notified of any AI problems from them. I'm just worried about them actually being shipped via USPS from all the horror stories I've been hearing this past month from people trying to get chicks.

Chicks are normally "iffy" even without being shipped through USPS. I got 2-month old juvies shipped from a breeder and one died 2 weeks later while one was fine. And once I picked up an 8-day-old chick from a feed store and lost her at 21-days to a seizure so you just never know w/chicks. My Mom always said they were delicate on the farm and a certain amount of loss occurs w/chicks no matter what. My preference is to wait to get chicks from a breeder that will ship older juvies rather than chicks and that way I don't have to go through the pain of losing chicks that I get attached to. It's costlier to order established juveniles but that way the chick death risk is on the breeder and not myself. Just how I happen to do it because I like rare breeds and willing to pay for it.

It looks like this white crested black polish chick has some dark barring on its shoulders. Is this normal? Will she grow out of it? I thinks it's kinda cool.
