I'm good thanks!! Quite excited at the moment as I have 14 eggs in the incubator from my own flock as a test batch. The first ones to be incubated from them so it's a bit of the unknown as to what is going to happen, feels like my first time incubating again. They are only on day 4 and it seems to be taking an age to get to day 7 for the first candling

We have had mixed weather over here in the UK. Some nights down to -7 Celsius then some days upto +14 celsius. Then today it has been very windy, a real mixed bag.
Lovely to hear your birds are ok and your frizzle is warming up.

Got a question, I have a good laced polish rooster, and I'm wanting to cross him with a different breed to get some unique feathered birds. Anyone have suggestions or experience with this. We have over a dozen different breeds.

Don't have any experience yet, but I'm hoping to hatch a few eggs from my Silver Sebright roo & Golden Laced Polish hens next month. I've heard the fertility with the Sebrights is kinda spotty & this will be my first time hatching, so I might not get anything at all! Best of luck with your roo!

Seems that way with the first batch...... soon enough though you should start seeing veins. I actually can see them at 4 days but I leave them in til 7 before pitching clear eggs. I have 3 week chicks 2 week old chicks and 1 week old chicks as well as a batch due to hatch in a week. I'm crazy for hatching in the winter but then again they will be laying by May or June so there is the upside.

He was purchased as a WC Black about 3 weeks before he crowed his very first crow he sprouted these crazy gold laced neck feathers. He is a beautiful bird though.
He shines in the sun like none of our other birds.
I had to put him back in with the hens today, so fo the person asking about breeding with other birds with polish

can't wait to see if we get some interesting blends. I will start saving eggs in about 10 days after the little ee is out of all the hens systems...LOL

I guess this will be my project birds for the Feburary valentines' day hatch...LOL

Should be interesting I don't expect to have found a home before then because no ones interested in him because of those gold feathers...

He appears to be the WC Black and Golden Kaced crossed.

I have a half Crevecouer (black) and half Polish ( Golden Laced) cross that looks just like him.

I have him in with my Crested Easter Eggers.

The Chicken Calculator on KippenJungle will give you a great resource to figure out what color mix makes what...
One on my all time favorite mixes is Ginger Red or Siver Pheonix OEG X GL Polish.

However I have to say as a breeder & conservator of 3 Rare/ Endangered Breeds that I hope you have a clear plan for what to do with these mixed birds as pure lines are hard to establish and maintain when excessive mixing occurs.

Then again as a Strict Darwinist/Genetics nerd I LOVE diversity, acknowledge and relish the challenge of manipulating color genetics!
So I hope you enjoy the above link as much as I do!!!

Maybe you'll find a project too! I want to put Porcelain into Polish...this will take YEARS! and will involve breed crossing. To do my part not to pollute the gene pool I plan to do small hatches and only with birds most likely to produce the proper color. Excess Cocks can go in the Pot at my house and Hens are tamed and sold cheap as pets only.

Thanks! We'll see what the future brings. We've ordered hen pairs of about a dozen breeds as well as a black copper maran cockerel and 4 hens. I'll also using ameraucana hens with the BCM to get some olive Eggers. Wish us luck.

Thanks!!! Unicorn has all her feathers back in Picture 1 & 2. Peg is in picture 8...even better color than his mama and all these new girls to breed to. pictures 3 and 4 are of Cap't Jack x Audrey...She has the best crest ever! So black it has a green shine!
