I currently have 33 chickens, 7 of them are the polish and no one is picking their feathers out. ****However, my chickens free range, we have 22 acres. Their coop is a 10x11 horse stall (lots of space). Their flock mates, except for 6 hens, are all chickens they grew up with that would not see their fancy heads as odd because they've seen it everyday since hatching.
In a smaller space they might pick feathers out because it gives them something to do and the chickens can't get away from each other quite so easily.
