Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I currently have 33 chickens, 7 of them are the polish and no one is picking their feathers out. ****However, my chickens free range, we have 22 acres. Their coop is a 10x11 horse stall (lots of space). Their flock mates, except for 6 hens, are all chickens they grew up with that would not see their fancy heads as odd because they've seen it everyday since hatching.
In a smaller space they might pick feathers out because it gives them something to do and the chickens can't get away from each other quite so easily.

I'm guessing my polish bantam is a hen? From about week 2 we have been thinking roo due to stature and it chest bumping my hand when I'd try to pick up my sultan, but we are at 10-11 weeks and no sign of any red around the beak, and no wattles. Are we in the clear? Thoughts? It's now the sweetest one out of the bunch. This is my first time with chickens, what color would you call it? Thanks!

Probably gonna be public enemy number one for mentioning this,,,
The more space they have, the happier they seem. Realize of course not all of us can have acres&stuff but just an observation. If they have never know a wide open space they dont seem to miss it much TO me at least.

Ah,its cute as can be who cares?
Either way if it helps,we have a leghorn hen who is picky at hands&quick to approach(lol think its just cause shes spoiled though&expects treats) have a dominique whos kinda squacky&bossy too shes a big one for chest bumping hands.
Have you watched how yours acts when the sun comes up? I cant explain it to you you just have to commit to checking it out one morning. Dont waste your time trying to video it, ya gotta check it out first hand, yourself. Thats the best advice i can give ya. Welcome to byc and dont let some of the negative nancys kill your vibe some folks on here take everything for granted...its like they forget how cool watching a rooster crow for its first time is. Good luck&you will learn alot.

I can't say for sure but my rooster started getting wattles around 4 weeks. If yous is 10 weeks and still doesn't have any it's probably a pullet. :)

I agree for most breeds free range is definitely the way to go. It's closer to their natural habitat and gives them so much more space.. :) that being said some ornamentAL breeds like the polish are prone to predators. Not saying they can't just that they are more likely to be eaten so if it's a favorite probably better to keep that one in the run..

Here's our little polish baby Phil who hatched late March. I really thought I had a pullet at first but I'm still a beginner at sexing and was mistaken. Just heard him crow for the first time a week or so ago. Overall he's a really quiet bird and so funny to watch!

Hi there, I'm looking for any pictures you might have, chick or adult, of Polish from Ideal Poultry. Please take a look at my thread right here... I have a feeling that over in the breeder and hatchery forum, it's easy for people to overlook it.

I hope that there is someone out there with Buff laced, Silver laced or Gold laced form this year, last year or 2014 who can help me out. Thank you so much!!!

Thank You! I hope you end up getting some good chicks from your eggs. My girlfriend really wanted a polish chicken and I couldn't find anyone in our area who sold them. I finally found this one chick at Wes feed in El Monte and he said he got him from a school who hatched it. I wish I could find out more on where he came from but so far he is growing up to be a great chicken. I'm not allowed to have roosters in my area so I'm super bummed we can't keep him but I'll make sure he ends up going to a good home
