Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You! I hope you end up getting some good chicks from your eggs. My girlfriend really wanted a polish chicken and I couldn't find anyone in our area who sold them. I finally found this one chick at Wes feed in El Monte and he said he got him from a school who hatched it. I wish I could find out more on where he came from but so far he is growing up to be a great chicken. I'm not allowed to have roosters in my area so I'm super bummed we can't keep him but I'll make sure he ends up going to a good home

Yeah I have 2 roosters right now unfortunately. I need to find a home for the smaller one. So far my 2 roos are getting along though. Don't know if it's because they were raised together. They have no crow rooster collars if it's the sound your worried about. I know some places they are outlawed though. It's stupid really..

I'm guessing my polish bantam is a hen? From about week 2 we have been thinking roo due to stature and it chest bumping my hand when I'd try to pick up my sultan, but we are at 10-11 weeks and no sign of any red around the beak, and no wattles. Are we in the clear? Thoughts? It's now the sweetest one out of the bunch. This is my first time with chickens, what color would you call it? Thanks!

Agarrard, looks like a Buff Laced Polish... as it gets older, and the adult feathers start coming in, you should see more of a pattern start to emerge, where the feathers are a warm golden tan (like a pale hamburger bun or hotdog bun) and each feather has a clearly defined white border, or lacing. Giving the chicken a very decorative appearance especially around the chest, shoulders and the back of the wings where the lacing shows up the best.

Keep an eye out for pointy feathers (shaped like a dagger) on the crest and growing on the back of the bird. Females have rounded crest and saddle feathers, but males develop dramatic, drapy, pointed feathers when they grow their adult plumage. Of course by then you'll see red on the face of a male, and may be hearing some odd hesitant crowing too.

Jenniferlamar70, it's not at all unusual for 2 roosters to get along. Sometimes, small groups of roosters will be "buddies" and choose to spend all their time together. I have several of these groups of compatible roosters roaming the place.

Caramel is such a character and the friendliest of my polish. We trimmed the feathers of all ours so they could see a bit better. They are definitely the farm's comic relief.

Thank you! As my first run with chickens, I am learning so much! I look forward to their colors and feathering changing week to week. I understand they go through multiple stages to get to their adult feathers, but can you tell me around what age they hit that milestone? Thanks!

Ah,its cute as can be who cares?
Either way if it helps,we have a leghorn hen who is picky at hands&quick to approach(lol think its just cause shes spoiled though&expects treats) have a dominique whos kinda squacky&bossy too shes a big one for chest bumping hands.
Have you watched how yours acts when the sun comes up? I cant explain it to you you just have to commit to checking it out one morning. Dont waste your time trying to video it, ya gotta check it out first hand, yourself. Thats the best advice i can give ya. Welcome to byc and dont let some of the negative nancys kill your vibe some folks on here take everything for granted...its like they forget how cool watching a rooster crow for its first time is. Good luck&you will learn alot.

They were just moved outside a couple of days ago. My husband and I have been traveling so we didn't want to move them out before we could commit to keeping them safe. I will most definitely keep an eye on my Chickies at sunrise! My only fear of Roos would be that all 3 would be Roos and my neighbors would hate me and turn me in to the HOA and I'd have to rehome them, lol.:th I personally could care less if they were male or female. I love them either way!

Yeah raising them together seems to make a big difference from introducing a new bird to an existing flock. Thanks for the advise on the crow collar. I had no idea those even existed! I think I'm going to try it out. As long as my neighbors are cool with things I'll be ok but if they want to take a complaint to the city I'll most likely have to get rid of any roosters. I checked the city laws and if I read it correctly we're capped at 25 hens with no roosters permitted.

Waiting on new coop and getting nervous. We are using a tree that fell so waiting for the wood to dry out before can finish building it. They where small but in like the past 3days they have grown so much.

Hope that rooster you might relocate finds a safe home.btw

I haven't tried the collar yet but I plan on getting one to try if we need too. Good luck I hope it works out. I've seen them on amazon.com and ebay. :)
