Yeah, I'm not a breeder either but I like to get correct info if I ever get an all-black bird. My fluffy Black Silkie doesn't have hard feathers so a sheen is a moot point. But there are other black chicken breeds where sheen seems to be an important point. If I pay good money for birds I order I want to know if I am paying for the appropriate qualities in a breeder's stock. I don't breed because of space/zone issues but I still get joy in having a quality bird whether it's for looks, rarity, or for good production. I mean, I love all animals even if mutts but It's my quirk to love having rare breeds that have all or most of the important characteristics of the breed standard -- I don't mind paying the appropriate price for it when reputable breeders have gone through so much trouble to perfect their birds as best they can
