My 2 roos. The black one when the sun hits it the feathers are they seem to change colors from purple, blue, green. Pretty cool.

I once asked about the correct sheen on black feathers and was told the correct sheen should be green. Personally I like the purples and blues but apparently for breeding correctness I was told green was the preferred sheen. Anyone else know about this?

Yeah, I'm not a breeder either but I like to get correct info if I ever get an all-black bird. My fluffy Black Silkie doesn't have hard feathers so a sheen is a moot point. But there are other black chicken breeds where sheen seems to be an important point. If I pay good money for birds I order I want to know if I am paying for the appropriate qualities in a breeder's stock. I don't breed because of space/zone issues but I still get joy in having a quality bird whether it's for looks, rarity, or for good production. I mean, I love all animals even if mutts but It's my quirk to love having rare breeds that have all or most of the important characteristics of the breed standard -- I don't mind paying the appropriate price for it when reputable breeders have gone through so much trouble to perfect their birds as best they can

TOTALLY agree. This is why I irritate folks they think they got me "pegged"&the script gets flipped. Lol I never confirmed to a lone group at school,i wanted to know all of them. Haha.
Or if your a motorhead=my garage would have a few select types camaro,old dune buggy, a snow mobile or two&bikes why conform to one(how boring does that get?)Harley are WAY great(on long ride) but sometimes I long for another ride on an R1 or duccati.

These are my baby "poufy heads" on their first day out. That was a couple days ago.... you can tell by the golden laced (Ozzie and Marley) heads that the other babies were getting bored of their brooder. Ever since they've been put outside there has been no more crest pecking. They were 3 weeks in these pictures.
