You think like most people. You don't realize that if I can pay $25 an hour to hire someone that first I have to deduct Social Security and Medicare and unemployment and other state and local deductions then healthcare sick days vacations. So now you don't the $25 an hour you only get about $13 an hour. But it's still costing me $25 an hour.

A 20 employee small business doesn't get much of a health insurance break.

What do you think the system should be? How do low income families get health insurance regardless of existing medical conditions? I am honestly interested as I also think the system is very broken and that Obamacare is a compromise no one is really happy with.

I am also fully aware of the breakdown. Half of my income is 1099 and I pay all the regular employee taxes on it plus all of the employer taxes, ss, etc you list.

I really get a laugh here, women do not want anyone between them and the doc but now they have government and the employer both in a huge role. Sometimes you get what you ask for.

Yep If the government wants to run everyones healthcare that's fine but don't bring my business in to it. If they want to raise taxes to pay for it fine but raise everyones not just some peoples. Next thing they'll want me to start taking care of peoples daycare.

The government isn't running the healthcare system...private businesses are.

I suggest some of you go off and compare some large businesses, and how they handle healthcare and salaries. Costco and Walmart are two that come to mind....also check out the Hostess debacle. The Hostess executives are underfunding the employees pensions at $1.1 million per month, but 19 for them are asking the court for bonuses of over $1.5 million. Bonuses for running their company into the ground, failing to keep up with a changing market place, and failing to export a very export friendly product.

I'm sorry did anyone say the government was running the healthcare system ?

If I understand the basics of Obamacare correctly, it aims to make employers and insurers provide cover, with fewer exceptions and exclusions, to more employees than hitherto. If that's correct, it doesn't go far enough. An effective health care programme can operate only through taxes and must be available to everyone, no just employees.

I have written previously that if the UK, economically crippled after WWII, could successfully introduce and develop a State tax-funded scheme that includes health care, pensions, unemployment benefits and aid for the poor, sick and disabled, then the world's largest economy should be able to do the same.

Many employers have been providing health care insurance for their senior executives and managers and should now accept that all employees are valuable assets to their businesses. Employees with guaranteed health care programmes have fewer financial concerns and employers can be more sure that the workforce is healthy.

The recent recession is an indication that the days of plenty are not guaranteed and that a social programme is needed to provide for those who may struggle financially to care for themselves at times. Doubting Thomases might benefit from setting aside their knee jerk reactions and think more deeply about the necessary social changes rather than only their own personal circumstances.

technically they are not running the system but practically they want to regulate it and I really see no difference not unlike other certain businesses. It does exceede the role of the government in too many ways to list. The government will decide what Hostess executives get so who is running business really... think about it.
