All this talk about taxes is saddening. You're all missing the painfully obvious solution:

Cut spending.

Cut all foreign aid, get rid of the Departments of Energy, Commerce, Education, Interior, and HUD, get rid of the TSA, stop subsidies (corporate welfare), and bring our soldiers home as a starting point. While we're at it, we ought to get the Navy back to patrolling trade routes and guarding the coasts while ending the federal war on drugs.

Good starting point in my opinion.
Sounds good to me too!

It's record has been better than that of Monetarism.

Keynesian economics might work in a vacuum, but we now live in a global economy. Money moves from place to place in a twinkling of an eye. When the fed fiddles with the US money supply that stimulates the economy of China and other countries, not the US. Remember, the Bank of America lent it's TARP money out in China. The us banking system is not what it was. The tail can no longer wag the dog.

China borrows money for next to nothing in the US, and then they use that money to buy US industries and real estate.

I see a lot of comments from posters that really don't have a dog in this fight. US citizens are required to pay taxes on all income no matter where it was earned or where they are living. One cannot run off to some other country and avoid US taxes. Tax returns must be filed every year of a US citizen's life and then again for the year in which the citizen dies. Then there are inheritance taxes to be dealt with. After the turn of the year, they will be going up. There are only five or six days left to die in this year. After that your estate will be plundered by a greedy IRS.

Should a US citizen seek to shuck their citizenship, the sum total of all they own becomes taxable as income in that year. The IRS will peel them like a grape. And no country wants poor people.

The IRS has already picked me clean.

I see the French court has rejected the seventy five per cent income tax. Let's see what happens next.

I don't know that there's any way anybody can be ready for it, seeing as how there's so much the government just plain won't tell anyone. We just do the best we can on a day to day basis and hope for the best with what we have.

Is the Government hiding something from you about the cliff ?
