I'm a legal mother clucker....got neighbors, but we all have land, a minimum of at least 1+ acres on up. Have Home Owners Association but it's legal to have chickens. I think my chickens are less of an annoyance as the screaming brats and barking dogs people have!

not exactly 100% sure, but i dont really care. the ordinance says zoned ag, 1 acr in size or more, or something else. im zoned partly commercial, part industrial and my lot might be an acre, but since im a stones throw from the rr tracks and the trains make more noise, the city can stick the ord up their egg hole. (plus, im friends w/ the city atty, so....bring it on)

Well, even though I live smack in the center of my small, mountain town, I thought I was legal, but after reviewing my town ordinance, I am not sure..

We are zoned AR1 for Ag residenedial and we have 7/8 of an acre. I grew up in this house and the house across the street had chickens, the house next to it had chickens and horses, the house next the that had cows, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, ducks, etc, the house behind us had chickens.... but, the ordinance says min. sq ft per animal (fowl) is 1500 sq ft (I'm good here, I have 12 chickens), but what has me stumped is it also says 16,500 sq ft min. net Lot Area Required (One Animal) (square feet)

Does that really mean I need 16,500 sq ft min per chicken, not to include the 1500 sq ft per chicken??? OR does it mean I need a minimum of 16,500 sq ft to have any chickiens at all, which makes more (but still not much) sense. What I find funny, is the requirements for bee keeping... one acre is allowed 5 bee hives, so I could have more bee hives than chickens if the "1 chicken per 16,500 sq ft" applies...

Interestingly, tho, the ordinance doesn't say anything about roosters, of which I have one VERY LOUD AND ANNOYING EVIL SILKIE, who never shuts up!!!!!

But, since our house is much closer than any of the neighbors, I am sure he isn't as loud as I imagine him to be. Plus, I deliver eggs.. for free to my neighbors

I'm on the fence..

Our city outlaws farm animals (but really doesn't define that term well) but someone else here on the forums was able to keep her girls and even got a permit from animal control after they interviewed 28 neighbors! Sheesh.. Anyway, I'm following her plan and am on the down-low until I get reported.. I'm sure if I went to get a permit before I bought any they'd deny me right off.. I'll keep my fingers crossed.. So far the neighbors dogs and some noisy wild parakeets are WAY louder than our 4 pullets.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Hens here, but AC is looking other way for now, always looking over my shoulder, but it is worth it for my girls.
