Poll: Do you have an automatic coop door?

I'm curious about how many folks on BYC have automatic coop doors. I love mine and it seems like most folks I know use them, but I figured it might be interesting to see what folks on BYC are doing. If you're interested, take a few seconds to answer the poll!

We looked into getting the Run Chicken ones. We needed 4 for our new breed pens we're working on that will be behind the current coop.

Then, hubby decided we'd just HWC the pen coming out of the new coop completely, top to bottom, so, the chicken doors could be left open in good weather. He'll put the doors on a pulley system for us to close all four at once which we'd do in inclement weather, blizzards, etc.

We have the Run Chicken door that runs on batteries. We wanted one we could hardwire into electricity, since our coop is in the garage and we have easy access to electricity, but couldn't really find one. Our previous automatic door out at the farm was solar powered.

No, I don't have or need an automatic door. I have an open air coop that is basically a big run, a small coop with a predator-proof run attached, and a large coop that's more than big enough should I not be here to let them out (they do have a run as well).

I have had my Run Chicken door (battery powered) for almost 4 years, I love it, and change the batteries about every 8 months. I have another one on my grow out coop that has batteries that are charged by a solar panel. It's digital and very easy to set and works good for what I use it for.

A drop door with a rope through eye screws run about 16' to the main entry, don't have to pass through the whole shed, stand out side pull up in AM drop in PM.

I have a homemade automatic door thanks to my dad. It’s wired into the electricity, and you can set when you want to open and close it. It works well unless the power is out, like it was yesterday, but you can also manually open it.

Worth every penny. I can’t say enough good things about the Pullet Shut, even the name rocks.

Mine is 10 years old and spent 7 of those 10 getting beaten on by New Hampshire weather/winter when my coop wasn’t in use. (Long story, there’s a thread on it!)

Relocated coop to Jersey and I have the door running flawlessly off solar and the original battery somehow!
