Poll: Do you think its wrong to kill your chickens?

Long as you don't do it with malice its not an issue. You do what you need to do. If you think of it as being 'morally' wrong then YOU shouldn't do it. But if someone does it for 'food' or the betterment of their farm/family/home whatever... then the moral cards have changed for someone else.

Completely a personal view.

People raise their chickens for different reasons. I personally cannot kill and eat any of mine, I have them for pets. If I had one hatch that needed special attention, I would take care of it and insure it had a quality life. If I didn't think it would have a quality life, I would take it to the vet and have it humanely euthanized. For the ones that kill and eat theirs, I would only hope that they are treated kindly, cared for and well fed until they are used for food. This is strictly my opinion and I don't expect anyone else to think exactly like I do.

My feelings exactly. I have no problem with people raising their own meat, as long as those animals have a good quality of life all the way to the end. To each his own, but I wouldn't be able to do the deed myself. I'm afraid it wouldn't go smoothly or something. I've already taken a hen in to the vet, in the past, to be euthanized due to Marek's. I'm always worried that if I have a chick that needs to be put down, what to do. I think would still take it to the vet. That's just me though.

Me three.

I agree with the first part...but if i see someone being cruel to any animal I WILL voice my oppinion! I dont care if its not my animal...its a living creature and being cruel or mistreating them is wrong

duck&chickencrazy, NO, I was referring to others killing them for food! I would OF COURSE speak up and take action against any sort of animal cruelty!!!

i keep coming back here, waiting for ...

"Yes! I think it's absolutely wrong to kill any animal at all. Animals have feelings and souls, and what gives humans the right to end a life? How can you see an animal every day, and then chose to kill it? Absolutely wrong."

but I haven't seen it yet...

and joe bryant, some people feel guilt about killing their birds, I certainly do, though i manage to suppress most of it... so it's not a 'stupid question', but I do agree with your answer, I also think it'd be wrong to stand on a birds neck with one foot and smash it with the other, so if I ever hear of you doing that, you'd better watch out!

pips&peeps :

I don't like doing it, but it is a necessity. I prefer not to let my birds suffer and I cannot afford to raise a deformed bird.

Amen.
