So I’m curious if you are a couple, how did your partner react to you when you first wanted to keep chickens? (If it’s changed or you want to elaborate, please leave a comment!)
My husband knew nothing about chickens before we got them, meanwhile I grew up around them. The plan was to eventually get a small flock started when we bought our first house together. Soon after we moved into our house, my dad passed away. He had a flock of 4 senior hens that needed to be re-homed. So of course we took them in, even if it was a little sooner than planned. It was my idea, but he was very supportive. Ever since then we’ve hatched out 3 silkies into the flock and just recently adopted a new hen. He has always been very supportive and eager to learn about raising chickens.
I remember one time we brought the senior girls in for a “chicken spa day” to trim nails and take baths, and I said to him as we blow-dried one of the hens who sat wrapped in a towel on the bathroom counter, “Did you ever imagine this is what owning chickens would be like?”:gig

My husband wanted them more than me and pushed for them. I loved the idea of having chickens and fresh eggs, but was reluctant. I knew I'd be doing most of the work since I work from home, and didn't want to deal with chicken poop on top of running after a toddler and our dog lol. I finally gave in over the winter and started doing what I do - researching obsessively lol. In the process, I fell in love with chickens and ordered 7 for the spring. My husband worked his butt off building the coop and run, and I helped when I could. I'm so happy we got them - I never expected to enjoy them as much as I do. I go out multiple times a day to do chicken chores and just hang out with them. Turns out I'm much more into them than my husband, but he still really likes them and is super supportive of anything chicken. 😉
