My husband knew nothing about chickens before we got them, meanwhile I grew up around them. The plan was to eventually get a small flock started when we bought our first house together. Soon after we moved into our house, my dad passed away. He had a flock of 4 senior hens that needed to be re-homed. So of course we took them in, even if it was a little sooner than planned. It was my idea, but he was very supportive. Ever since then we’ve hatched out 3 silkies into the flock and just recently adopted a new hen. He has always been very supportive and eager to learn about raising chickens. So I’m curious if you are a couple, how did your partner react to you when you first wanted to keep chickens? (If it’s changed or you want to elaborate, please leave a comment!)
I remember one time we brought the senior girls in for a “chicken spa day” to trim nails and take baths, and I said to him as we blow-dried one of the hens who sat wrapped in a towel on the bathroom counter, “Did you ever imagine this is what owning chickens would be like?”
